Here is a Ebay add for a Colnago Master that is priced so ridiculously that you have to wonder what is going through the head of the seller. The only thing special about this bike is the paint job.

Now Colnagos for heavens knows what reasons, are price at exorbitant prices all of the time. They were NEVER very good steel bikes and the racing successes they had were mostly from the large numbers of teams they sponsored.

Why would you pay between $2K to over $4K for a Colnago when you could get a https://www.ebay.com/itm/363571239278?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item54a688d96e:g:Ie8AAOSwwn9hfA2l&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACoPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsS5%252FLJbfonbQUYd49AU1AJY5eoYYBkweP7dc%252B2ktSDVbCe8kS8ftH6MVI26sTODom3EC7rp2thZaE9MYfCBTzE4S6m%252Bgmlj4Iu9mHixA5tfMsXSiLRWPI3qFdRtKGVYDcCiUtCcLUaEPf3Ui%252FuLZ8qgfcGxh5ibXCZrLgx%252B5h19ziqc3Ge4dEgHyjqVpsEru%252FxFq3bokvzpB3P8iUiMZhqMjLPa%252B99wvr2tz3z56OQ9ZgTdhR9QipRN76xZglZA%252FonoGDVhFA%252F1SIbPmhHFytf1PT%252BF5PUpQuTIfnClGfV2BIAsoPqmYot9V9u0jJPBNgznc8pkBhdl%252F78C2PN%252FiWq6tM5haawA%252BWIGxQu1lSc6s56tbzr7wAZHK0mUY2Ogpx%252F%252BrRQHyJmRuimcsXcAqByIPm2Vd8Ag1ul3g3XYKEsv1WzDWl20WTjzWyhjiERcwaQ%252BKkcPUGzEIuuDYitQQDH0NgFCrboTe9Qqye2VseJPiiXw2B0BY%252BvkInvbpZWdATA%252B50MBuxY4YtctmxG4%252FBCtwWVi%252Fm85ozePBZBy58mIBFyt8jBWm9QDykf83kxT8gwzvdDRni46qCGJ6XjjALQPeLuO4dbndypGvIAARw2VLoJL1LNEyKhDJiRkqw2CsEt0SHKqBu2J6AOqXjyMjmtTMw8YXtzRGSAmBx6wchgwqEPtTfkfCmVjxDDxKAOCEX02TtJEHCcMqlfSBEsW2N8THlkfpqMmiF3Vlr4hWXxOmnivTYxwRme3kFOxg6atWZRYWBh%252B1Tbpdl%252BCzZ26FYw8jJY1cQyeAi%252FqDDQsTIDKBUUzqbYoQyrKfsdE8pF%252FaRtEjG4UXXWXCPq5e98ZqrAzw%253D%253D%7Cclp%3A2334524%7Ctkp%3ABFBM1ozI46Bf ?

I assume you really mean ad as in advertisement when you write "Here is a Ebay add for a Colnago Master". I dislike misspelling words. Probably comes from winning a few spelling bees when I was in school as a kid. And for some reason you did not post the ebay link for the Colnago you are complaining about.

As for the Columbus tubing Cinelli bike you did post a link for, $499 plus $80 shipping is higher than I am willing to pay. Figure several hundred dollars for someone like Andy to repaint it so it has a new paint job and decals. You are into the frame for close to a grand. I assume it would be a fine steel frame and fork. But its probably 120 or 126 rear spacing so would need frame fixing for more dollars by Andy to use new, modern components.. Unless you wanted to buy and use 1970s and before components. Which some people do. But for fun recreational bicycling, I prefer more current bike technology.

I see among your other talents you haven't any idea of how much it costs to properly refinish a bike. Cycle Art used to charge $2,000 for a complete job and now probably more.

"properly refinish a bike"
Andy from Madison Wisconsin has posted many pictures of his repainting of frames. He did not give a cost for each of his repaints. But I am assuming it is much less than $2000, as you claim it takes to properly refinish a bike. Now I have not inspected Andy's repainting skills in person. But I am going to assume he does an acceptable job repainting frames. He does not seem like a person who does poor quality work. I just don't think he would let a poorly painted frame and fork leave his shop. Just a guess on my part. So once again Tommy boy, you are proven to be a LIAR with your lies of it taking $2000 to properly refinish a bike. I guess you never ever get tired of being a LIAR. Guess its your personality trait. LIE LIE LIE. So my estimate of several hundred dollars to repaint a frame/fork is valid. Now it might be $500 or maybe even $600. A lot. But not $2000 as you claim with your lie. Now I am not saying you cannot spend that much to repaint a frame. You can. I'm guessing there is gold leaf infused paint that costs $1000 per quart or something nuts. But you definitely do not have to or need to. Few hundred dollars, several hundred dollars, maybe even $500, will get you a finely painted bike.

A fair price. An econo powder coat is worth about 10% of an
actual respray.

Figure several hundred dollars for someone like Andy to repaint it so it has a new paint job and decals. You are into the frame for close to a grand. I assume it would be a fine steel frame and fork. But its probably 120 or 126 rear spacing so would need frame fixing for more dollars by Andy to use new, modern components. Unless you wanted to buy and use 1970s and before components. Which some people do. But for fun recreational bicycling, I prefer more current bike technology.

It is difficult for people used to the paint job on stock bikes to understand the detailing that goes into a good custom paint job. Yet Colnago's go for TWICE the price of similar quality bikes without there rather crude paint jobs which are nevertheless better than, say, Pinarello.
