Over months, this has happened several times I connect the phone to the
PC to recharge the battery.

A box opens at the bottom, asking:

Use USB for data, android auto, nothing ,
or something like that

But no matter what I tap, it KEEPS repeating.

I thought it was the cable, but I tried 3 cables.

This wasn't much of a problem until this weekend, when I'm trying to use
google maps navigation, and the screen on the car radio goes black and
it starts all over again. This takes 5 to 15 seconds, meanwhile the
traffic here is terrible. the lanes are narrow, and I really need the
navigation, without interruption!

Any ideas?

If it's not the cable maybe it's the usb port on the phone. It's been 3
years, charging it 300 days a year Do they wear out so soon? I think
replacing it is beyond me, but is there a way to refurbish it, in place?
Or do you think the problem is something else.

Bad connection for sure. Either bad cable, bad connector at any of the
four ends.

Assuming that's Android Car Auto or whatever the current name is, I
bought a dongle to use BT+Wifi instead of cable in the car. It worked
better for a while, until the upgrade to Android 13.

Now it simply crashes, repeatedly.

Yes, the connector at the phone can be replaced.

I found a question on the web regarding this happeneing when the phone
was connected to the PC, where the answer was "not the right drivers" in
the pc. But I can't replace the drivers in the car.

I might be able to connect with just bluetooth, but I need to charge
the phone at the same time. I will still try it for a while to see if
the interruptions end.

>better for a while, until the upgrade to Android 13.

I guess I don't want to buy that one.

PS, I brought my previous phone too and it was frenetic. The map didn't
appear on the car's screen and it became a little square in the bottom
right of the phone, plus it was jumping up and down. I had to use that
little square to find my way. The streets here are narrow,
complicated, lots of traffic even on Sunday (although no places where
traffic doesn't move, unlike Saturday.)

Had to bring a passport to buy a sim, and I did that today, and the
phone worked within a few minutes, but the data didn't work for hours.
Online help was a bot, that wanted more info from me but didn't say
what. I thought I would have to go the store again (and all there
stores are in really big malls where you have to pay for parking and
walk 1000 feet or more.

Plus none of the 3 malls I've been to have a map, and they're not laid
out like simple rectangles. I have to keep asking one after another,
Donde esta Tigo. Oh yeah, Spanish. I've forgotten more than I thought
I had. 53 years make a difference.

Plus when I was here the first time, I was impressed by everyone's
diction. Each word was pronounced individually. Not like with Cubans
that my Cuban step-father introduced me to. "ma or meno" for example.
But now the people I've met talk like it's all one big word. I tried
to have huevos rancheros this morning. That seems simple, right? She
couldn't understand por llevar oro maybe para llevar. But the llevar is
the important part. And she replied with about 100 words of her own.
Don't know what she said. Last time I could make out each word but
still had a hard time understanding. But I could say properly whatever
I wanted to say. Maybe in a week I'll do better.

You still can charge from the cigarette lighter circuit.

For short trips I don't, for longer movements I do.

:-))

I have not been to the Spanish side of the pond, so I only have my side
to compare. Yes, I think we join words, but maybe not if one is talking
to a tourist that clearly doesn't follow.

The French do, it even has a name. Liason (don't know if I got the
spelling right).

This is sort of resolved but the details should interest people,
especially Carlos.

>You still can charge from the cigarette lighter circuit.

Yes, but it won't put google maps on the car screen vie bluetooth That
does only audio and phone calls.

I brought a cig lighter usb charger with me, but it's deep in my
suitcase. However Hertz Guatamala thought like you did, and lent me
one. However 2, it doesn't work.

So what I did is connect a hub to the radio's usb port and connect the
phone to the hub. And by golly, no problems with the phone. So I
think that shoots the idea that the cable was no good.

And it suppports the notion that there are inadequate drivers in the
non-phone. In this case the car, like the article I think I posted that
said the PC had inadequate drivers. Of course I can go get drivers for
the PC but I can't do that for the car (A toyota Yaris.)

I think if I had a Samsung phone or another of the really popular
brands, Toyota would have tested their radio with one of those phones,
but mine is a Xiaomi, less common, and the Japanese don't like the
Chinese anyhow, I hear.

I don't get the map on the screen this way but I have a great magnetic
phone holder (url on request) and it's almost as easy to read as the
car's screen.

I met a guy today. He was the "attendant" and at a small U-shaped
shopping center, with a gate for cars entering and leaving. I already
got in trouble by not finding the place to pay before trying to drive
out, at two other malls (In Guat City, not Antigue which is smaller and
less busy), but I went to this guy, in some uniform, to find out how to
pay. And he spoke every word clearly. I told him so. Even when I know
the words I can't think fast enough to understand** what he said, but
that's the way I remember it from 53 years ago. **But I can talk
pretty well. Find some way to say almost anything I want to say.
