I've installed the Samsung email app on my new Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and
configured two email accounts - both of which can send and receive
email, so the accounts are working OK.

I notice that the Email icon (and the associated text "Email") on the
home screen constantly moves slightly from side to side among the
rectangular grid that all the app icons are constrained to follow.

I wondered whether it was telling me that there was one or more unread
message, but I've selected all and marked them as read. And anyway, I'd
expect an app to signify new messages as a "badge" numeral on the app's
icon.I can;t see anything among the Settings options for the Email app
to figure how new messages are denoted on the icon.

The info for the app is V6.1.90.16, installed from Play Store.

Any suggestions what is causing it?

Unfortunately, Googling for "Samsung email app icon moving from side to
side" doesn't bring up any relevant matches; all it mentions is *all"
apps moving around the screen as new apps are installed (because they
are sorted alphabetically rather than allowed to be positioned manually).

The icon on the Apps page (ie list of all apps installed, irrespective
of whether/where the icon are position on one of the home screens) stays
static and does not vibrate from side to side.

Interesting. I'm posting this with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9FE (the cheaper
model of yours) and it didn't come with a Samsung email app. I didn't
notice until now since I use Gmail and the Gmail app did come already
installed. (Google: "Take that Samsung") But I checked in the Samsung store
and it's there for download so all is not lost if I ever get pissed at
Google. Bottom line, I'm not curious enough to download it to see if it
does what yours does, sorry. Suggestion if you can't fix it, get another
email app, there are sure lots more out there...

If I understand you correctly, are you saying you have an icon for an app
(that happens to be the Samsung Email app) which when placed either on the
desktop or inside a folder on the desktop (but not when it's displayed in
an app-drawer app)... "moves" in position a little bit from time to time?

That's hard to understand and even harder to debug without information.

What launcher?
How much movement?
How frequent is the movement?
Can you snap a screenshot of the before-and-after positions?
etc.

The main problem I see with the Google Gmail app is in my tests long ago,
it does two egregious things which I personally can not put up with.

1. It _creates_ a Google Account on the phone (if no account existed),
2. It _uploads_ the default contacts sqlite database during that process.

Note: You can change, after the fact, the upload but in my tests
(admittedly long ago) you can't change it until the account is created and
since Google unilaterally created the account on the Android phone, Google
appears to have defaulted to thinking you want your contacts uploaded.

Long ago I tested every free email app available that I could find and
settled on FairEmail as probably the overall best when you take privacy

Not so far on my new tablet.

You did it long ago with your mobile phone.

Unfortunately I long-pressed on the icon by mistake and dragged it away
from its position on the grid, and when it sprang back, it stopped
moving. So the problem has gone away.

The amount of movement was maybe 1/4 of the size of the icon and it was
regular with a cycle time of about 1 second.

I was surprised that the Samsung email app was not pre-installed (eg
with an icon in the Samsung folder on the desktop) as it was on my
present phone, a Samsung Galaxy A54, and my previous one which was also
a Samsung Galaxy of some model from a few years ago. Since I'm used to
this app on my phone, I chose it for the tablet as well. I'm sure there
are other apps which are better.

I wonder if Samsung have decided (or been coerced) not to pre-install
their own browser and email client, and let people decide which app to
use, rather like Microsoft had to unbundle Windows Mail / Windows Live
Mail, and Internet Explorer, and let people chose which programmes they
wanted.

It's probably what one gets used to. I used to use K9 for Gmail but in
recent years I just use the Gmail app which was already on my Android
devices when purchased. Then no need going through that password routine
for using Gmail on an outside email app.

I chuckle when I install the Chrome browser (in which I read my Gmail) on
Windows. It begs me not to use it and to use Edge instead...

Are you sure the Samsung email app was not pre-installed was
pre-installed on your A54 and the unknown earlier one? I have a A51 and
it didn't (and doesn't)have the Samsung email app.

My A51 *does* have the Samsung Internet browser pre-installed.
