My phone, a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro works fine most of the time, but
sometimes. tapping something gets no response. Tapping over and over
gets no response, which usuaually should be going to another page, but
tapping elsewhre on the screen does just what it's supposed to,
including going to another page. So maybe that part of the screen is
dead, but if I slide the whole image up or down and tap in the same spot
in content of the scree (but now moved to another spot on the physical
screen) it still doesn't work.

Possibly related: When the keyboard is showing, tapping Uppercase
always works right away, but tapping the Number/Symbol button usually
takes 2, 3, 4 taps to get the keyboard to change. Is this normal,
within the bounds of normalcy?

Possibly related. Is there a good app that works like Task Manager in
Windows. Specifically, that says how much of the CPU each app or a
given app is using and/or how much total CPU is in use? I get the
feeling that my phone is too busy to do anything when I tap in some
places, but I have no way to know how busy it is.

----Maybe even how much of the RAM in in use by each app, but that
seems like a frill I don't need right now. .

clean the screen?

make sure you're not gripping the phone in such a way that your fingers
are touching the edge of the screen unintentionally, e.g. does it work
better when laid on a desk and not holding it?

try a touch screen test app from the store.

enable developer mode (settings/system/press build number 7 times)
then go into developer setting, there is system-wide and per app memory
info, but android works different to windows, if the foreground app
needs memory, other apps can be completely killed off (saving their
state in the process) and will then get restarted later and should
continue where they were at i.e. don't worry too much about memory.
