Well, I must say that I neve go to LA anymore so I've never seen anything like that. The actual SIZE of LA is frightening. I was driving down to Arizona and needed to stop for gas as I passed by LA. I turned onto a main drag and drove for 10 minutes to get to a combination gas station and 7-11 or similar. I would have thought that those sorts of things would be adjacent to the freeway.

San Francisco did this five years ago

doubt if it had any effect on bike thefts.

San Francisco will do anything to avoid addressing the root causes of
the homelessness problem.

But Los Angeles is such a tiny little place, Why, it is only about
1/10th the size of Sitka Alaska (:-)

I shouldn't brag, but I've ridden my bike in Los Angeles without fear.
I've ridden my bike in Jacksonville, Florida which is close to twice as
big.

What do you know about LA? Three years ago I took a cab from the airport to the Carnival dock over the freeway and it took over an hour with no traffic delays. There's that Alzheimer's kicking in again. The METROPOLITAN area is what counts and not the city limits. But you can argue that because there are places in LA that you can ride safely there are no dangerous areas. That is your sort of sickness.
