Wow, a 79-y.o. Democrat, Wisconsin-born, spaghetti-haired, UCLA
sociologist Ph.D. .... Anyone seen her riding a bike since, say, 2003?

So ... will the next "Seattle Study" establish that leg injuries surged
thereafter?

Kudos to Edwin Lindo, who allegedly started this repeal and who seems to
be fearlessly riding on a Schwalbe dry-weather compound tire conducive
to my favored statistical results:

what do you suppose the purpose of that old bullet proof vest is in Seattle? Do you think it is for fending off police assassinations because she is wearing all blue?

Tom, what you quoted is footer content not necessarily continuing a
posting's topic. The image is from Ukraine, several days ago, not from
King County. And the uneducated, but WEF-YGL "qualified"
A.C.A.Baerbock, the German (Green Party's) Secretary of State, is trying
to appear serious, but mostly unpatterned, for a number of diplomatic,
political, and PR reasons. Had you been aware of her name and initials,
your question would have been even funnier than her, doubtlessly,
hilariously innocent parents.

You'll have to forgive me, with all of the burned out buildings in the background and all of the women wearing bullet proof vests it looked exactly like present day Seattle.

Here is a current webcam of downtown Seattle. Looks pretty good to me. No burned out buildings. Even construction cranes putting up new buildings. People leisurely walking on the sidewalks. Cars slowly driving around. Looks pretty dog gone peaceful to me.

Just for the record:
Ms Baerbock ist not "secretary of state" but "foreign secretary". She
has an L.LM in "public international Law" from the London School of
Economics, which the German right-wing press claimes to be not a real
degree because 1 it's not German, 2 she had to pay course fees
(=>allegedly bought rather than earned)
She started a Ph.D. in Germany after that, but her jobs (Party Leader,
Member of Parliament) interfered so she did not complete it.

Well, you have to admit that Germany has returned as an economic power because of German sensibilities and education which Great Britain does NOT have.. Hospitals in Great Britain stacked with people awaiting to be seen let alone treated are a common enough sight. The idiocy of people like Frank who denies that virtually all new medical technology comes from the USA and spreads from there and he wishes to end all of that and have the too little and too late socialized medicine. How they can find ANY economic advantage in any of that has only lately been mollified by the appearance of private hospitals and doctors with private practice.

So the right wing Republicans in Germany think if you have to pay for college, then it does not count? They better not come to the USA. Most college students in USA have to pay the school to attend. A few do get full ride scholarships. Free!!!!! But you have to be super genius or a sports athlete to get full scholarships for free college education. So by the Right wing Republican Germany thinking, 99+% of all USA college graduates do not have a degree.

London seems to be doing OK as an economic powerhouse too.

Great Britain compared to German health care systems.
A Google search on both turned up some differences and similarities.
"Is German healthcare better than UK?
Germany is generally considered to have better outcomes, but spends more money. Germany spends $ 5 500 per citizen on health care. The UK spends 4 200 $ (2016 stats). A difference of 1300$ per person is actually an enormous amount of money when multiplied up by the country's population."
https://www.quora.com/Which-country-has-a-better-public-health-service-Germany-or-the-UK
Above is a good comparison of German and British health systems. From a user perspective. Seems they are a lot closer than different.

For FUN, I looked up the cost of healthcare in the USA. Used Google "cost of healthcare in us" for search. Found the following.
https://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Statistics-Trends-and-Reports/NationalHealthExpendData/NationalHealthAccountsHistorical#:~:text=U.S.%20health%20care%20spending%20grew,For%20additional%20information%2C%20see%20below.
"U.S. health care spending grew 9.7 percent in 2020, reaching $4.1 trillion or $12,530 per person. As a share of the nation's Gross Domestic Product, health spending accounted for 19.7 percent."

1. USA $12,530
2. Germany $5,500
3. Britain $4,200

Lifespan
1. USA 77.3 years
2. Germany 81.57 years
3. Britain 81.52 years

GOSH DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA is WINNING!!!!!!!!!! HIGHEST healthcare spending AND SHORTEST lifespan!!!!!!!!!!! We must be doing something RIGHT!!!!!!!!!! Hmm...right wing Republicans?

The Asian Americans average life expectancy is 86.5 years and Hispanics 82.8. But that couldn't be right right? You don't know what the average age of death is driven by.

A few do get full ride scholarships. Free!!!!! But you have to be super genius or a sports athlete to get full scholarships for free college education. So by the Right wing Republican Germany thinking, 99+% of all USA college graduates do not have a degree.

I believe that the allegations of paying fees was intended to imply
that she paid, i.e. bribed, either the school or the teachers to
obtain here diploma, rather then to have taken tests, and this gained
her education by subterfuge.

OK. There are subsets of the USA population with a higher and lower lifespan. But this is America. We do not segregate people. Supposedly. We are all one big mixing pot or something. Everyone in one pool working together. Theoretically. The whole USA with its 330 million people has an average lifespan of 77.3 years. Everyone. All ethnicities, races, religions, sexes, height, weight, healthy, cripple, etc. And we spend $12,530 per person on healthcare. Doesn't matter which race or ethnicity or sex you are. Average is still $12,530 per American.

This is somewhat funny. Ironic may be the more correct term.
https://measureofamerica.org/the-measure-of-america-2010-2011-book/quick-facts/
"Life expectancy in the United States is 78.6 years, on par with Chile, though Chile spends 1/10 what the United States spends on health care.
Residents of 29 countries live longer than Americans do, while spending as little as one-eighth as much per person on their health."

Please not Tommy, we are talking about WHOLE countries. Not separate segregated categories of people within each country. Everyone together.

On this very forum we've come across Californians who have no respect
for education! Despite their own lack of diplomas or degrees, they
frequently insult those with advanced educations.

And, perhaps not surprisingly, they can't seem to perceive the
inconsistency in their own attempts at logic.

Someone should get them to stop posting.

Well, the transatlantic elite's ways of recruiting continental quislings
have become slightly more refined than the blatant practices you seem to
remember from third-world oil industry in the 20th century. Rolf just
clumsily attempted to smear as extremist what really was some
well-deserved, pre-election scrutiny on the mainstream's darling politician.

It was not some irrelevant, reactionary jealousy that raised eyebrows
about Baerbock's resume, but her own, condescendent-sounding joke about
her more agriculturally educated Green fellow candidate, in which she
used a phrase that fully specialized lawyers would use to describe their
field. Of course, her behavior drew widespread attention to her claims
from her opponents, including unsympathetic conservative journos. So
they deflated her braggard resume, piece by piece, with Baerbock
reluctantly revising, and rephrasing, while trying to blame informal
translation etc. for the exaggerations of her supposed journalistic,
office management, book authorship, and university accomplishments.

Would Baerbock's charming cheeks stand any chance of getting her through
any US Senate confirmation hearing?
Not until Kamala/AOC take hold, I'd guess.

Isn't it easy to say that? Belgium of Holland with a virtual mono-racial group has a countrywide lifespan that you're anxious to compare to a multiracial US.

Frank, you supposedly have an education. Explain to everyone here what you've done with that education. You seem to have a lot of respect for a piece of paper that hasn't done anyone any good. And yet you disrespect the lack of that piece of paper when that person has been part of the move to improve the entire human race. Those who can, do. And those who can't, teach.

Such situational ethics you have!

At one moment you denigrate education because you never completed high
school yet (in your imagination) achieved tremendous success by working
at something like 20 companies in 30 years (IOW, being unable to hold a
job for even three years).

At another moment, you praise college degrees because you found a person
with a degree who happened to agree with you; and you deem his degree
superior to those of the others who debate you.

Tom, I've got multiple degrees in difficult subjects. I've got
Professional Engineer licenses from multiple states. I did engineering
(which is necessary to get the PE) and I taught engineering. I've had
students return to thank me for their education and their careers. I've
had students who went on to (last I heard) become vice presidents of
companies, or found their own companies, or successfully complete
projects that had stymied other engineers. I've had students come back
to recruit other students into companies they were running.

Many engineers do great things with their educations. By providing that
education to so many graduates, I've contributed to far more
accomplishments than your series of 30-odd temporary technician jobs.

(And if someone offered you over $800,000 for the house you live in, why
are you still in that hell hole?)

But you're sniveling that you should get part of other people's money. In this "hell hole" as you call it, I'm donating money to worthy causes. I was born 2 1/2 miles from here and you want to chase me out? Try it. Just try it.

I'm not trying to chase you out. I'm trying to reduce your misery,
partly in hopes that if you have less to complain about, you'll stop
complaining in this discussion group.

I can't imagine what keeps you in a place where (as you've repeatedly
said) gang gunfire is either frequent or constant, illegal aliens take
over the streets with car racing side shows, homeless people overrun the
sidewalks, grocery prices strain your budget, liberal politicians
restrict your freedom, the water supply ruins your plumbing, etc. etc.

What keeps you there, if not lack of money? It can't be simply that you
were born there. Your ancestors changed continents to get to a better
place. Were they _that_ much smarter and braver than you?

Frank, if there were gunfire outside of your house you wouldn't say a thing.. So don't tell me anything about complaining when you couldn't tell a complaint from a comment. You are perfectly willing to exaggerate anything I say so that you can make false claims about me. So go climb your tree and tell us about how an over-the-counter AR15 is militarized when it isn't. You are afraid of guns and you are willing to sit around all day long and make false claim after false claim about them. Too bad the Supreme Court has ruled against your outrageous claims time and time again and broken your heart that your little NAZI pals couldn't have an easy time to take over this country. Nobody cares what you think and even John is against your fake news.

More fantasy and evasion. You didn't answer my question.

What is keeping you in such a miserable place? If you're so prosperous,
why won't you move?

(Not to mention such a miserable state of mind.)

I presume you mean "Belgium OR Holland"? Holland being your name for The Netherlands. Holland is a former name for a portion of The Netherlands. I believe it is the coastline portion of The Netherlands. I rode through it back in 1992. Very pleasant. I rode through Belgium too. Went to Brussels.

Now I have to bring up the FACT that I never ever mentioned The Netherlands or Belgium in my post. I mentioned Germany and Britain/United Kingdom/England. WHY did you change the subject and facts AGAIN? Why?

The Netherlands first. Since that is where Lou is from. Total population of about 17 million currently.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/netherlands-population
"The Netherlands is currently growing at a relatively slow rate of 0.22% per year. This growth rate added about 37,742 people to the population from 2019 to 2020. The Netherlands has positive net migration of about 16,000 per year and the fertility rate is relatively low at 1.66 births per woman. The fertility rate is currently below the population replacement rate of 2.1 births per woman. Given this, the population growth is heavily driven by immigration. The Netherlands is receiving many asylum seekers from Syria."
"The population is largely Dutch, comprising 79.3% of the total population. They are the major ethnic group of the country. Other ethnics that are minorities here include: Europeans comprising 5.7% of the population, the Turks comprising 2.4%, Indo-Europeans with 2.3% of the population, Moroccans at 2.2%, Surinamese with 2.1%, Caribbeans at 0.9%, Poles at 0.6%, Chinese at 0.3%, Iraqis at 0.3%, and some other ethnic groups that comprise the remaining 3.9%."
I'd conclude the population of The Netherlands is very Caucasian. Not a lot of mixed race.
Life expectancy is 82.64 years.

Belgium. 11.5 million population.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/belgium-population
"In terms of ethnicity, the Flemish community is a majority in the country. More than 6 million inhabitants of Belgium are Flemish, while the French-speaking Walloon are a minority but make up the next biggest population group with around 3.5 million inhabitants. Apart from the two major population groups, there are small groups of minorities present in small pockets around the country, including the roughly 1 million German-speaking residents who live near the Belgian-German border.
From amongst the immigrants, the largest group of inhabitants is from Morocco, with around half a million residents living all over Belgium. The next biggest ethnic group of immigrants is from Turkey, and these people are also present in significant numbers all over Belgium."
Belgium is 90% or so European Caucasian I would guess. Morocco and Turkey are its immigrants. Darker skin I think.
Life expectancy is 82.01 years.
