In the 1950s and 60s and 70s, the USA blindly supported the Shah of Iran. We did not listen or pay attention to the subjects of Iran. We did not care about their opinion. But the Ayatollah did listen to their opinion. And from about 1979 until today, Iran has been a sore point in the USA. It is very likely we could have easily prevented this.

>No Tommy. My point is the USA did not listen or pay attention to the Shah and his dealings in Iran. If they had during the 50s and 60s, they could have and should have and would have picked out one of the Shahs opponents, a more moderate non religious zealot, and supported him and advanced his cause. And not supported the Shah blindly. And the outcomes in Iran would have been changed. The Ayatollah would never have ascended to his heights in the 1970s if someone else got there first in the 60s.

>A very similar thing happened after WW1 and WW2. The Allies punished Germany rafter WW1 with reparations and other punishment. Resentment grew during the 1920s in Germany. And Hitler and the Nazis came to power in the early 1930s. And less than ten years later we had WW2. But the USA and other allies learned from the mistakes made after WW1 and did not repeat them after WW2. Germany went on to become the biggest economy in Europe and a very free and fair democracy. And on the other side of the world, Japan was not punished after the war. It was controlled and limited. Limits on its military strength and lengthy occupation by the USA. But it has since become one of the largest economies in the world and I believe its fairly democratic and free.

Actually Japan, after WW II was helped, to a very great extent, by the
U.S. The MacArthur regime broke up large farming consortiums and gave
the peasants land, underwrote businesses, even the Yen/Dollar exchange
rate used for the military was beneficial to Japan.

And it worked.

The Allies punished Germany after WW1 with reparations and other punishment.

Gee, with knowledge like that it is a shame Biden hasn't made you the Secretary of State. Here is a clue - when you are treaty partners with a country you support their elected leaders. You don't believe it a fair election? But Biden was fairly elected huh?
