So today in Central Illinois after successive snow storms and no riding outside I get out today. Temps in the middle 30's no wind and the route I took clear of snow and ice. 55 miles and it was glorious.

No technical bike content but it was a JOY.

It's up and down with the temperatures and the wind here. We get a nice mild day then a below freezing night that turns the moisture on the roads to ice sometimes black ice. A really strange winter. At least I'm still riding.

Cheers

Today we invited a friend to join us on her first ride of the year. A
glorious blue sky day, warm temperatures, low traffic and astonishingly,
most of the roads I chose were pretty free of potholes! (So far, at
least.) Also, nice brief visits with two different sets of friends who
were out in their yards as we rode past.

Just a short leisurely ride with a nice lunch stop, but fun.

Mid 30s in central Illinois? It was almost 60 in southern Iowa today. How did you get colder temps 100 miles south of me?

It is supposed to either rain or having already rained here but I don't see any wet ground and may go out but I have to make a doctor's appointment to see about a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, possibly appendicitis. They normally prescribe a round of antibiotics these days.

Freeze warning here so it is best to take the trail that is so torn up you get traction on the cracks.

At last clear skies today, a nice 10 C with and a moderate wind after three storms and a lot of rain last week. Fields are still soaked or flooded:

ahh and the last time I had to wear a face mask at the bakery. It ends coming Friday. I had no problem with it but it is a nuisance to bring one with you on your rides.

2 C this morning and the wind blowing so that feel is 5 degrees less. Maybe I can go out tomorrow.

You have green in February? We have no snow here. But all the grass is tan/brown colored. Nothing green.

Cold an dry climate? We don’t have that so our grass stays green in the winter and the farmers throw a lot of cow and pig shit over it. I think that ‘helps’ also.

Yes Iowa is dry in the winter. Low humidity. Cold though, or at least it used to be before global warming. I looked up the latitude for The Netherlands and it says you are about 52 degree north. Iowa is about 41 degrees north latitude. So you're quite a bit further north than me. But maybe being so close to the ocean helps keep everything green year round.

Don't forget the effect of the Gulf Stream. Europe is much warmer and
milder than corresponding latitudes in the middle of continents as large
as North America or Asia.

Today it got up all the way to 1 degree C so I did 35 miles (56 km). I'm now over 700 mile (1,100 km) for the year. Can't say that it felt all that great.
