`One of the things I found rather surprising on that Century was that the majority (not a large majority) were riding steel bikes, There were some titanium bikes but a sort of surprising lack of aluminum bikes and some quantity of new carbon fiber bikes ridden by people that weren't very fast though they may have been suffering from the same lack of training that I had.

There were some E-bikes. That is sort of surprising to me since why would you ride a metric century on a motorized bicycle? But while I was trudging up those hills I was passed by E-bikes and they were in rather high gears.

All extremists should be taken out and shot.
