I keep telling you, a politician must be seen to be doing "something"
in order to have something to brag about in the next election.

Back in the old days of corrupt politics you went down to the "Ward
Boss" and he got you a job, "on the garbage" or "down the Edison" and
you voted for his party in the elections.

Today, in this era of "honest politics" the politicians can't do that
so they paint stripes on the road. (And besides, my brother-in-law has
a paint company).
