"high energy" cosmic particles -- mostly nucleii of H or He isotopes --
have energies starting at 1 Eev.
A recent detection at over 200 Eev is approx 1 mn times bigger
than anything produced by the super colliders at CERN and
is likely the hottest detected in the past 30y.
At these kinds of energies the particle(s) are hardly deflected on
their journey so a good idea of the direction of the source
is relatively easy to calculate.
But the problem with this latest Big Ping -- it apparently come from a
region of totally empty space between galaxies.

Astronomers Baffled By Mysterious Ultra-High Energy [>1Eev] Cosmic Ray
Coming from Nearly Empty Void in Space
The Debrief, 24 Nov 2023
Astronomers operating the Telescope Array Collaboration project, based
in Utah, say they have detected an ultra-high-energy cosmic ray (UHECR)
with no discernible origin. Instead, the extremely rare cosmic event
appears to originate from a virtually empty void in space, leaving the
researchers completely baffled.

The problem with super high energy particles -- they are very rare.
OTOH "normal" cosmic particles come in thick. The lower energy ones
of course come from the sun. But other sources are discernable with
statistical methods.

Using data fusion techniques you can link up the ~160 cosmic ray
observatories around the world into a giant cosmic ray telescope.
With a little twiddling you can get an "average latitude" and
"average longitude" (i.e. a strength-weighted average direction)
and see how rays are affected by the movements of nearby objects.

Even the movement of relatively low-weight comets and asteroids does seem
to affect strength and directionality of the signal.

Disclosure and National Security: Should the US Government Reveal What It
Knows About UAP?
The Debrief/Christopher Mellon, 22 Nov 2023
[...] The sudden, unexpected confirmation of an ET presence on Earth
would not only unsettle but inevitably terrify mns--if not
bns--of people. And for what purpose? What chance would you have
as President of moving forward on other vital issues on your agenda,
given the tumult that would result? What reason is there to believe
the net effect for society would be positive rather than negative?
[Mellon starts out putting the case for secrecy to preserve the status
