My latest theory is that maybe my diet is deficient in iron, so my blood can't carry oxygen very well. My diet consists pretty much of Italian-type food because that's what I like, but it's always possible that it doesn't contain too much iron, I dunno. Or maybe your ability to metabolize iron declines with age; again, IDK.

And don't you dare suggest that I'm in denial about the effect on my stamina that my advancing years may be causing.

Today when I go shopping I'm going to buy some iron supplement tablets, start taking them, and see if I feel any stronger. In the meantime, any thoughts from you Detritus Disturbers? So do the iron tabs really dissolve in your body, or do you just excrete them pretty much intact? I'm a newbie on the subject, so please clue me in if you know about this. Thanks.

I had the same idea since I am very slightly anemic. So I tried taking D3 and Iron (which you have to take together) and it seemed to improve. But it may just have been that it took so long to appear to make a difference that I got in a lot of additional training.

If you are talking about blood oxygen then you don't have to guess as
a little clip on gizmo to measure it is available and probably sold by
pharmacies, or at least Amazon sells them.

I've got a "sports watch" that measures it while walking, along with
pulse rate and blood pressure.

As a comment, anemia is only one of the possible causes of low blood
oxygen (Hypoxemia).

Could you get a blood test? That would certainly display any lower than
normal markers.

Due to having a essentially a life changing injury, you name it it’s been
scanned/poked just to be sure etc so I’m fairly confident that stuff works
fine, though is getting on for 10 years I guess!

Iron pills can stop your “nether regions” up right solid if you take too
many. Start off gently and ramp the dosage up slowly.

Natural sources are always better - red meat and fish - but also dark green vegetables (broccoli is highest). However, it may be the case that your body simply isn't metabolizing as well as it should. Supplements are usually suggested for that, but be aware that your concern about excreting them out is very real. Iron metabolisis works best when in the presence of the naturally occurring amino acids that accompany the iron in real food sources. Also extremely important are other vitamins that support those metabolic pathways, especially vitamin C.

Here's a good place to start, but you should really get some bloodwork done to confirm an iron deficiency. :
