A friend of mine got a GARDIN bike today for $10.00 Canadian at a yard sale. It has Campagnolo Gran Sport derailleurs with Campagnolo 1st Generation Synchro downtube shifters.

How hard do you have to push the small lever to get it to go into friction mode?

The short levers and strong spring in the rear and front derailleurs made it pretty hard to push. Over shifting was common on the Shimano because you had to push so hard that you often overran the next gear. This is why the Shimano Dura Ace 7 speed Brifters were such a miracle - the levers were much longer and you had your entire hand on it.

I'm not sure what you mean but if "how hard to shift" then I can't
quantify it but certainly not hard enough to give much thought to, If
how hard to turn the little knob to change from indexed to friction
shifting then, from memory, it was "tight". I always used Shimano and
they had a sort of "loop" handle on the side to change , friction to
index, and from memory it was difficult enough that it made you sort
"grit your teeth".

Tommy boy's lack of reading comprehension rears its head once again. Wow. Tommy, Sir Ridesalot is asking about CAMPAGNOLO Gran Sport, not Shimano. They are two separate companies with different products. Their headquarters are located in different continents.

It's old and may well respond to slacking the tension screw
and running some oil through it to free up the dried
lubricant inside.

The later Syncro-II has an outer ring which is lifted,
rotated 90 degrees and then released to change between index
& friction modes.
