Not a great appearance for the N.E. U.S. happening at moonset, umbral only as far as I know. However, if you are in the middle of the Pacific ocean, good view.

The first and last hour or so of a lunar eclipse can be pretty boring... so set your alarm for 4 AM. The actual moment of full moon is 4:14 in the Pacific time zone, and the full portion of the eclipse lasts from 4:13 to 4:24, and here in San Diego the altitude at mid-eclipse will be about 16° above the western horizon. which for me is the Pacific ocean. Spend a few minutes observing during the middle of the eclipse. This, too can often be just so-so, but a good dark eclipse is quite a sight to see. For me, when the color is really dark, the coppery moon becomes 3D and looks like a big basketball hanging in the sky, and that effect can be startling in binoculars..

Best images will be horizon shots contrasting it against some land objects.

Well, got up at 3:30 am, took a bunch of shots of the Blood Moon with my Canon SX40, 35x zoom (800mm) hand held.
Seems, few of my shots came out good.
Post it here soon!
