Anyone here climb to Mt Evans in Colorado from Idaho Colorado appears to be 27 miles and a huge climb. Wonder about the traffic.

YES!!!!!!!!!! I rode most of the way up to Mt. Evans back in 2007. My family met up with my aunt and uncle in Colorado for a vacation. I took my bike and rode from where they met near Vail I think. Further west. I rode over to Idaho Springs via some route. Then took 103 south out of Idaho Springs up to the pass. 7 miles or so of OK mountain climbing. Then at the top, which is several miles long, you pass a road that goes up to Mt. Evans. Or you can stay on the main road and go down into Evergreen. I took the Mt. Evans road and rode up to the parking lot, visitor center of Mt. Evans. The paved road goes another mile or two up to the top of Mt. Evans. I did not do that part. Partly because it was late in the afternoon when I got to the visitor center. The Ranger said he had never seen any cyclist up there that late in the day. In July, when I was there, it frequently gets snow and/or rain in the afternoon. And wiser cyclists going up to Mt. Evans start early in the day and get up to Mt. Evans and off Mt. Evans before the bad weather in the afternoon arrives. And I did get some snow flakes descending from the visitor center. Just for a mile or two. I think its about 7 miles of climbing from Idaho Springs up to the top where the road to Mt. Evans is. The top is a mile or two long up on top before you go down. So maybe 8 miles from the edge of Idaho Springs up to the road up to Mt. Evans. Then I think it was a few miles, 5 miles maybe, up to the Mt. Evans visitor center. Noticeably shorter than the climb up from Idaho Springs. Then add on another mile or two from the visitors center up to the top of Mt. Evans. I did not do that part. It was all Rocky Mountain climbing. Meaning it was sort of shallow. 5-6-7% grades. Nothing extreme. But it was climbing and you were in the Rocky Mountains. Just shift to a lower gear and sit and pedal for an hour. No traffic. I-70 is the main road going through Idaho Springs from Denver to Vail. No one lives along those roads either. Only traffic would be people out driving for fun. Or those going to Mt.. Evans itself. And I am not sure Mt. Evans is all that big of a tourist draw. There is no ski lift on top. Its a Park I think. My lowest gear on that bike was 30x28. But I do not think I used it. Can't remember though. Most likely climbed with the 30x23. The roads are not killer steep.

All of my mileage numbers are from memory from 15 years ago. So consult a Google map or a more official distance calculator. But my memory of the road steepness is accurate.

Not ridden it, I’d say the height possibly maybe more pressing? In that
you’d be starting at 7,000 feet.

Only similar mountain I’ve climbed is MT Teide which tops out at that
height as it starts at sea level.
