Although Mars and Venus appear to be heading in opposite directions, they are heading in the same direction behind the Sun as seen from a moving Earth..

In this perspective, Mars and Venus are in direct motion behind the Sun, however, as the Earth moves faster than Mars, observers register it as a left to right change in position with the central/stationary Sun as a reference..

As Venus moves faster than the Earth, it overrides this perspective as it moves from right to left when behind the Sun and from left to right when passing between the slower moving Earth and central Sun.

I suppose that these two ways of modelling find an expression in the actual footage of the Earth running its circuit around the stationary/central Sun using a tracking satellite. Whatever replaces the C3 camera, I imagine that its range of vision to the left and right of our parent star will be wider thereby giving observers an enjoyable experience in solar system structure and planetary motions.
