This is intriguing as a proof of concept. Since there is virtually no progress on powerful alternative power solutions for spacecraft, this might be the only current hope for a continuously-accelerating method of propulsion.

What, like ion drives? Wow, another 4 watt propulsion system in the works? They've had them since the mid-1960's.

And they continue to improve, with greater and greater thrust and
specific impulse. They are likely the propulsion technology of the
future for many applications.

It's certainly true that while the idea of ion drives has been around for a
long time, there haven't yet been any missions done with the aid of them.
And long-distance automated scientific missions could potentially
benefit from a practical ion drive, once it is ready for use.

No missions using ion drives. Apart from Dawn, Tiangong space station, hundreds of satellites for station keeping (including geostationary) and lots of others).

Say what? There are lots of probes out there using ion drives!
