I'm still trying to get my mind around people buying e-bikes so that they can keep up with faster riders.

Electric powered bicycles can be safer than Maseratis:

Or not. Depends.

Saw several of them on my ride today. Some of them are obvious, but
some are designed to try to camouflage the electrification. It doesn't
work, however, because when I see somebody sitting bolt upright on a
heavy fat tired bike running 16+MPH but only peddling 40 RPM, it's
obvious. One of them actually waved to me today pretending that he was
a real bicyclist. I didn't wave back, but then I never wave back to
riders who take their hands off the bar to wave. The roadies on my
regular trail always wave a couple of fingers to me, and I return the
favor. Grandparent types tend to vocalize, but my left ear is near
deaf and I only hear wind noise in my right.

:-) So riding with one hand is scary too!

SO timid!

No, actually I just don't like overexuberant people who act like
they're my friend. It interferes with my biking state of mind.

So we have yet another common cycling technique easily mastered by the vast majority of riders that you refuse to engage in for .....some weird reason.

I've always considered riders who very clearly see me but don't wave back to be arrogant assholes that I wouldn't want for friends anyways. Not that I didn't already know you were part of that club.

Look more closely next time, they aren't giving you two fingers, just one.
