Efficacy comes in at 47%, almost half that of Pfizer and Moderna. It is suspected the reason is CureVac uses unmodified RNA, unlike Pfizer and Moderna which both use modified RNA.

CureVac was Trump's choice of horse in the race. That possible takeover prompted the German federal government to give them 300M Euros to speed up the development and stay in Germany.
