You have a Android phone.

Your phone stores image files. Eureka.

Your phone only allows Windows media viewer to open them. That makes no sense.
If you are talking about image files that are loaded from your smartphone onto
your PC, it's no longer your smartphone's property. Your smartphone isn't
preventing anything.

Follow Jeff's advice about changing "open program" in Windows. It's a
convoluted confusing process.

Then there is the Windows 10 process where you accept Chrome/Firefox offer
to change the default browser... Microsoft throws up the default programs
list, and you must click on the edge browser picture in order to change
the default to Chrome or Firefox.

Microsoft. Google. Sense.

Which of those three words is different?

I just move all the phone pix to a Dropbox folder. Then I can open,
sort, rename, delete, crop, email, all the things it's hard to do on a
phone.

Plus, I get terabytes of storage.

The Samsung phone is sort of a mess, but it takes fabulous pictures.

Not exactly. That should read adding to the "Open with" program list.

I do something similar. However, I leave the original photos on my
phone for a few months, mostly to do show and tell with friends and
customers.

>Plus, I get terabytes of storage.

When I only had 1.5Mbit/sec DSL, I used NAS (network attached storage)
for my photos warehouse. I recently splurged and switched to
50Mbit/sec cable, and now use the cloud as my data dumpster. The
larger the available storage, the larger my mess.

>The Samsung phone is sort of a mess, but it takes fabulous pictures.

Which model? I'm curious.

In the now distant past, I did some smartphone repairs. Nothing
spectacular. Just the usual broken screens and USB/charging
connectors. The older Samsung phones (S4, Note, SII) were fairly easy
to repair. The newer phones (A series and S series) are much more
difficult.

Having a phone with a good camera is useful. Having a phone that will
survive mishandling and can be repaired... priceless.

S10E. Cheapish at the Verizon store.

It's OK if you turn off most of the options and leave phone, camera.

The camera gets in surly moods where it doesn't want to take a
picture. Maybe that's another setting, a check box somewhere that says
JUST TAKE THE F****** PICTURE.

I was configuring Windows when your dad was in diapers. That wasn't
referring to the process, that was referring to your post.

Thanks. I thought it might be an S10E. I could smell it 75 miles
away. I inherited one of them when a customer discovered it would
cost more to repair than replace. They bought a new phone and have me
the carcass.

The problem is with the charging circuit. The phone took a 15 second
swim in the toilet. The owner dried it off as best as possible but
soon discovered that it would refuse to charge the battery.
Apparently, the electronic water detector is so sensitive, that a high
humidity environment will cause it to display "moisture detected" and
declare the phone unsafe to charge. It's a common problem:
<https://thecellguide.com/samsung-galaxy-s10e-wont-charge-anymore-heres-the-fix-6770>
The fix doesn't work reliably, probably because there might be some
corrosion damage. I managed to find a workaround by using the
wireless charger, which seems immune to the "moisture detected"
warning.

As an added bonus, the phone arrived with the glass back shattered
from an obvious collision with the ground. Fortunately, replacement
glass back case parts are easily obtained online. It's bad enough
having a glass screen that is easily cracked. What was Samsung
thinking when they designed in an equally crash sensitive glass back.

I haven't done anything with the phone since about Oct 2020, when I
returned from the CZU fire and associated evacuation. It's now
furiously updating. Maybe that will fix the charging problem. I
haven't tested the camera, so I don't know how well it compares with
other phones.

Normally, I would add some free advice on how to protect your S10e
phone from liquid or mechanical failure. Not much to say except get a
compressible vinyl crash protector and a tempered glass screen
protector. For water, put it inside a Ziploc bag if you think it
might get wet.

>It's OK if you turn off most of the options and leave phone, camera.

Everyone has an app or two that they can't live without. For me, it's
Solitaire+, various Google apps, and a mixed bag of weather, mapping,
navigation and GPS apps. Also, an HP41c calculator emulator. I'm
also using various "authenticator" apps for two factor authentication
when doing online purchases. If I turn off all of these, my mobile
life comes to grinding halt. Like any good addict, I'm enjoying my
addiction and have no intention of returning to a non-wireless life.

There probably is such a feature. Most phones have a one button "full
auto" mode, where everything is automatic and there's no need to make
any decisions. If it's not in the Samsung supplied phone app, I could
probably find such a point and shoot app in the Google Play Store.

If it were easy, it wouldn't be any fun.

Three system updates so far and it's still begging me to approve
additional updates.

Verizon sold me both, and I got rid of both. The screen protector
wrecks the touch sensor, and the external body armor was a nuisamce.

When it dies, I'll get somehing else.
