This morning I got up in the dark and turned on the coffee pot. Later I was drinking the coffee and thinking that it tasted really weak though hot.

After it got light I went to clean the coffee pot out and it turned out that I had forgotten to load the actual coffee grounds in the night before. But I didn't have time to brew another.

On the first 18 miles over to Pleasanton I felt awful. Making 5 mph up the grade was pure murder. Also my right hand became so numb that I could barely shift.

When I got to Pleasanton I felt terrible. I bought an almond croissant and a medium size strong coffee. I spent a half hour on that allowing the caffeine to get into my system. Leaving I was still a little tired but the further I went, the stronger I felt. The climb back over the grade was almost easy. It is 2% steeper than the other side but I went up 3-4 mph faster. I got home an hour slower than last Thursday but feel pretty good now.

So at least for someone that is used to having a lot of caffeine in their blood stream, it makes a pretty substantial difference to go without.

You may be addicted to caffeine.

I don't think you understand what addiction is. Look up "the ten signs of addition." I have watched people die from addictions and drinking coffe wass not one of them.

Thanks so much for the article.

I stopped coffee drinking while in college.

I remember having headaches for a week.

Andy, if there is anything that is possible to be found on Google you can depend on Slocumb to find it. That was nothing more than an opinion piece or did you miss the part where it said, "Despite the similarities between Caffeine dependency and other drug addictions, some health care officials debate as to whether it can qualify as an actual addiction. "

I hardly call two cups of coffee a day an addiction. Nor the fact that while working you always had access to coffee but on off-work days you still only drank two cups of coffee. And that with breakfast. My reaction may just as well have been from drinking water which I normally do not do. I will do a 60 mile ride and have a cup of coffee half way through the ride. Garmin will tell me that I should have consumed 8 bottles of water. Were that true wouldn't you think I would have some signs of dehydration? I just read an article that Bruce Lee actually died from drinking too much water because his kidneys couldn't process it fast enough.

I'm sure that there are people who can be addicted to coffee but there are also people (particularly women) who become addicted to cupcakes. And this includes all of the same symptoms of withdrawal as coffee. Why would you think that weight loss clinics make so much money?

That Slocumb has one purpose in life now and it is to make himself look like the great savior to people like you.
