This should be the end of that moron bitch charlatan , Tenpenny.
"She told lawmakers there — who were considering a bill against vaccine mandates — that the COVID-19 vaccine could potentially make people both magnetic and connective to 5G mobile data networks. "

I think that's part of the point. You can't argue "ignorance" on
your part (regardless, the courts don't allow that as a defense).
A body of your peers may have far less sympathy...

** Universities do not refuse narcissists and sociopaths from doing whatever degree they wish - long as they can afford it.
What Ms Tenpenny ( ten-a-penny ? ) is doing on social media is a business activity not directly associated with her being a doctor. So likely the licensing authority cannot claim she is committing malpractice.

In any case, medical quacks and entrepreneur doctors are not new.
We have one in Sydney, a brain surgeon who charges desperate patients $100,000 and more to attempt dangerous operations no other will touch.

Are med students required to critically analyse the texts they are given to study and be examined on ??
Are science & engineering students asked to do that either ??

Phil hasn't got a degree, so he has some silly ideas about the process of getting one.

Gettijng a Ph.D. explicitly requires you to do a critical review of the relevant literature. Some of the literature I looked at had defects, and I identified them.

> Challenging any of it openly will do the opposite.

Only if you can't justify your opinion. Nailing somebody else's mistake gets you extra points.

Exactly. She's targeting idiots who lack the ability for critical
thought (and rely on regurgitating "stuff" they heard, elsewhere,
regardless of its actual merit). If you can feed into someone's
*fears* ("It's the illegal immigrants!") or *ignorance* ("The
*Sun* is the reason behind global warming!") then all the better.

It's always easier to embrace an explanation that absolves YOU from
any role in an outcome or decision-making process:

"I lost my job because of those damn illegals (and not because the very
same technological advances that let me purchase an 80" TV set on *my*
pay are also working to make the relatively unskilled labor that I
provide to my employer as obsolescent)"

"The vaccine (that I am scared of taking) has hidden nanochips in it
to enable the government to track the position of everyone and monitor
their thoughts! (But, the NRA membership card that I carry doesn't have
any such things embedded in it! Nor my driver's license! Nor my rosary!)"

[Hmmm... are you sure the NRA isn't a secret "front" organization for the
CIA? To allow them to track gun owners -- with the WILLING/eager participation
of those gun owners (whereas any legislation to do so would be met with
visible resistance)? What better way to maximize "participation" for minimal
investment! You can even make them *pay* to join!!!

Now that you think about it, are you sure AARP isn't a similar scheme to track
all the old folks in case we need to round them up?]

Obviously, the folks that do this aren't concerned with the opinions of
their (ahem) "peers" -- likely because those peers have already written
them off as "a nutter", "stupid", "manipulator", "incompetent", etc.

You wrote "degree" not "basic degree".

> BIG news to me and others here, I bet.

Critical thinking is looked for at the undergraduate level, but there aren't explicit tests specifically for it.
> The Kill Bill fuiking moron don't even know the RMS to peak ratio of a sine wave.

When I thought about it, I did remember.

It is when you are looking at the average waveform, rather than the root mean square (power) waveform.

Not in any formal way.

The tower in Pisa does lean. Phil isn't great on pronunciation or spelling.

> Narcissist and sociopath describes him as well.

If you have Phil's enthusiasm for diagnosing most of the population as suffering from these disorders. Phil seems to think pretty much everybody other than him is either a narcissist or a sociopath, usually both. People with a better grasp of reality see these conditions much less often.

> FOAD soon as possible.

I don't think I'll bother. Making Phil happy isn't one of my priorities.

The discussion thread was about medical degrees, which are basic degrees
and do not normally involve research. If you look up Tenpenny's wiki
entry, you will find that she has a BA degree and a "Doctor of
Osteopathic Medicine" degree (DO, equivalent to an MD). She has *no*
Ph.D or equivalent which involves original research.

What Phil said about getting a degree was basically correct - you don't
question educational dogma. And that's especially true for a medical
degree. You might ask why something is done the way it is, but not
question why it is done at all.

Exams might ask searching questions to see if an undergraduate has the
ability to problem solve, but it's based on what he or she /should/
already know, not an ability to think out of the box.

It is a problem with medical education. The Cochrane Collaboration exists to correct it, so not every medico is blinded by dogma.

Rote learning won't make it. You do have to understand the information you have absorbed, and deploy what you know - and that you think is relevant - to answer the questions you run into on the exam paper. Like any sensible undergraduate I used to go through exam paper from previous years to get a feel for what was being looked for, and the questions weren't all that predictable, or all that easy to answer.

Doing well - getting honours in the Australian system - did require you to understand what was going on in some depth, and wider reading did pay off.

** For a med degree - a student needs a damn good memory and a lot of persistence.
A great deal is rote learning, which will never work if you regularly doubt what you are trying to memorise.

In my time at Sydney Uni, med students were a group apart and scorned by most others.
They were notoriously "right wing", from wealthy families and campaingned against the introduction of Medicare ( free medical and hospital ) like it was the invention of the devil.
It was often said openly of the profession: " doctors bury their mistakes ".

Most staff I met at at Sydney Uni did not have such a skill, cos universities are authoritarian bureaucracies and commercial operations set up to exploit vulnerable students. And they are damn good at it too.

It threatened to reduce their income. The Australian system doesn't.

Undertakers and grave-diggers do it for them.

Probably a little more enthusiastically than that.

Phil doesn't seem to have understood the environment he was exposed to then, and responded to it in a way that got him slung out after a year.

> Sloman is a demented geriatric - just like Joe Biden.

Phil might like to think that, but somebody like him - who didn't understand the university environment well enough to be allowed to stay there fro more than a year - does seem prone to misunderstand other areas as well. I spent twelve years at university, three getting an undergraduate degree, two more getting a Masters Degree in Inorganic Chemistry, and five more getting a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. The last two - as a post-doc - did confirm that I wasn't fond of academic research, which is almost always under-funded. My wife did better and has been an academic all her life, and is good enough at it that her research has always been well-funded.

The liberal arts college I went to in the US didn't have traditional
grading, graduation was contingent on completion of a sequence of
projects of escalating complexity in your chosen discipline.

At the undergraduate level it was very employment and
entrepreneurship-oriented, they figured you have your whole life to
become an academic (or graduate school at least) if that's what you
wanna do. For example there was a small model farm for undergraduate
students in the field of agricultural science and farm management and
related, there was book-study involved for sure but also they figured
the best way to accustom incoming agricultural science students was put
them on the farm, on day one. Yes with the sheep and llamas you're going
in the barn with that mean ol' llama immediately, there's really no
substitute for the experience

But not well enough to persist.

Or to form an impression - probably not a good one.

Neither do doctors. They may not do quite there right thing, and better doctor might have saved the patient, but - Harold Shipman apart - they are rarely guilty of deliberate murder.

You formed an opinion, which didn't serve you too well.

That's another of your opinions. It may make you feel better, but it's not well-based in reality.

You didn't finish your degree. Granting your capacity to be obnoxious, getting slung out seems the most likely explanation.

It is the kind of explanation that would appeal to Phil, who seems to think that everybody except him has cognitive problems. Since I emerged with a couple of degrees, it isn't one that has a lot of credibility.

I've had two shots of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine, so it's unlikely to happen. Getting Covid-19 is still a possibility, but I probably wouldn't get visibiy sick or infect anybody else, and dying is much less likely.
