My mother always said that she was Irish, but she started out with a Jewish faith and had to convert to Catholicism to marry my father. She took that faith quite to heart. Her maiden name was Herz. But the name I remember her mother had was Welch so I assumed that she had retaken her maiden name but as it turns out, she had gotten remarried but it couldn't have been serious since the many times I was living with her, I never saw another man about the house.

My father was a drunken asshole though a good father, and he would brow beat and actually beat her sending her home to mother and she would of course take us kids with her. He would beg for her to come home and make every promise to change but he never did until she had enough and divorced him. That was far too common in the days during WW II. Though the blacks avoided it in our neighborhood and were the rare responsible people.

I tried to get a genealogy report but every time I tried they wanted a credit card rather than Paypal and soon after I got false charges on my credit card.

So am I a quarter Irish? I suppose I will never know.

Up the road on the other side of Cork City is Blarney and Blarney Castle, which high up in the battlements holds the ancient Blarney Stone, from which the Irish are said to derive their articulate genius. Then perhaps I am Irish in part at least. Flunky and his comments sound to me like he is a drunk like one of my best friend's father while growing up. You couldn't understand a single word he was saying either. I used to race as well, 35 years ago. That doesn't make me special as Flunky likes to believe himself.
