Well here it is done. I manage to ride it 33 miles on the trainer this morning. Too nasty to ride outside. Rides fine on the trainer and shifts better than it ever did on the Wilier. I used the Wilier's 6700 groupset.

Ha, Jay always made fun of my garage. Where is he when you need him… ;-).
Bike looks good though.

I rode the Road Shark on the same course I did yesterday. The wind wasn't as bad but because I greased the aluminum seat post to get it to insert in the slightly rusted seat tube, it had rubbed off the rust on yesterday's ride and today the greases post slipped down so that It was an inch too low. That is REALLY hard on the tibia posteria and I predict leg cramps later. When I got to the coffee shop I was so worn out from riding on that low saddle that I spilled my coffee when I got to the table. Not a lot but enough to piss me off.

Yesterday I used the Garmin 800 and it showed the ride as 22.5 miles. Today I used the Garmin 830 and it showed 25.3 miles over the same exact course and another 100 feet of ascent. I figure the ascent difference to be because the 830 has a much more powerful uC and so has a faster sample rate. I think that the more powerful 830 corrects for the triangulation for altitude adjustment better.

I used some napkins from the Starbucks to clean the grease off of the seatpost and out of the seat tube and made a wild guess at seat height and was pretty close. So the ride out didn't kill me as much. But my legs are feeling that low saddle.

I was a little faster than yesterday but not by much. I have spare Shift outer cables and was able to extend their length on the build which seemed odd since the new bars are a cm narrower than on the Moser that the group had been on.

And talk about cold! I was wearing THREE thermal jerseys and the inside one was wool. Two pairs of wool socks. I did not get overheated.

My garage isn't any neater than that. I used to have a really neat workspace but that seems to have fallen apart when I remarried the worlds most untidy wife. She has cleared the kitchen counter off for the first time since her arrival 5 years ago and I am forced to applaud her for it. The entire space around the washing machine and drier are covered with stuff that needs washing for wet cloths that she is waiting for a warm day to air dry. About once a month I get a chance to do my laundry. Of course I have four bikes hanging from the ceiling including the wife's Colnago Super and her Mersian that i have to fix the handlebar tape on. The Trek Alpha, The Cannondale Optimum gravel bike with disks and gravel tires, and the Aliverti, Fondriest, Tomassini and Land Shark on the floor so I hardly have room to lay blame. My station wagon barely has room to park and the garage is overly filled with stuff. As I recall, Jay live way out in the sticks so he might very well have had a three car garage to handle his and his wife's cars and only two bikes.

I did email Jay and apologize for pushing him too hard but I suspect that the use of the group had failed him. Not just me but the stupid 5 could embarrass a clam.

So I don't think that we'll be having Jay around anymore. I hope that he didn't have the rare but very dangerous reactions from the vaccines. I would prefer him calling me names to the idea that he might have died from Myo or Pericarditis.

?? You have SO many mechanical problems! And why wouldn't you
immediately reset the seat height before riding on?

The wind wasn't as bad but because I greased the aluminum seat post to get it to insert in the slightly rusted seat tube, it had rubbed off the rust on yesterday's ride and today the greases post slipped down so that It was an inch too low. That is REALLY hard on the tibia posteria and I predict leg cramps later. When I got to the coffee shop I was so worn out from riding on that low saddle that I spilled my coffee when I got to the table. Not a lot but enough to piss me off.

I figure the ascent difference to be because the 830 has a much more powerful uC and so has a faster sample rate. I think that the more powerful 830 corrects for the triangulation for altitude adjustment better.

"wild guess"? One would think someone with so much experience building their own bikes would get it really close the first time, then just a tweak after a few pedal strokes - but this _is_ kunich we're talking about here, the guy that thinks campy makes special campagnolo non-stretch shifter cables.

Frank you spotted it for sure. I very large HO layout. A folded dogbone with 2 mainlines running about 180 actual feet. I don't fiddle with it much these days but built the layout 19 years ago when we moved in. Top quality bench work I did for sure it holds up fine and probably the best in the neighborhood.

While I set up my ~1950 0 gauge set only for the extended family kids at Christmas time, I love viewing
the really big layouts. Once or twice per year the local train club does an open house, with at several
massive layouts entirely filling large rooms. And a museum in Pittsburgh has a similar layout, probably
20 feet by 40 feet. Many of those show local history. Fun!

You might find that a dropper type seat post, as is popular on
mountain bikes, might be useful. Kinda like a barber shop chair for
bicycles. For you, nothing but the best. Here's one that's
hydraulically coupled:

I don't know what size seat post your bicycle of the day uses, but I
expect something that fits could be found. Or, you can have a special
size made. More hydraulic dropper seat posts;
