Yep, DON'tknOw doesn't understand the entire concept of the Mainz, Troitsk and KATRIN
experiments, which is really quite simple. A neutron in a tritium atom decays into a proton,
an electron and an electron antineutrino. He completely fails to understand that THEY
DON'T MEASURE ANY PROPERTIES OF THE NEUTRINO. They infer them by measuring
the properties of the ejected electron. His asinine assertion that they measure the difference
in the square of the masses between the three neutrino flavors is beyond ludicrous. When
the decay event happened, it WAS an electron antineutrino, and THAT'S what the experiment
inferred, PERIOD!

I can't wrap my head around anyone intelligent not understanding that. So I can only
conclude that he is not ... well ... intelligent.

Actually, he is wrong. Proof: If a signal is received and closes a relay which sets off a bomb,
but if the signal is not received and doesn't set off the bomb, then it cannot be claimed that
the bomb is both set off and not set off. If it has no energy in the frame of the receiver, the
bomb is not set off.

One of the problems that confuses some people (not you because your understanding doesn't
reach far enough to even grapple with that problem) is that an infinitely-fast tachyon has no
energy but DOES have momentum (so its four-vector momentum isn't zero). Unfortunately,
said tachyon cannot transfer momentum (3-momentum) without transferring energy, too --
but the tachyon has no energy to transfer. So u = ∞ in the frame of the receiver is an absolute
limit to reception.

So the reviewer was wrong. I've given up on AJP and am looking at other peer-reviewed places.

going to look stupid when KATRIN comes out with further results showing tighter error bars with
not much shift in the central value :-)).
