Must be some sort of a time lag. Bike stores here are on the ropes. The lowest end and the highest end bike stores appear to be stable but the in-betweeners are selling nothing and no one trusts their labor.

Just guessing, but: Perhaps they're hiring bike mechanics to deal with a
surge of repair work on bikes bought during the pandemic? Those are
probably due for tuneups.
