At least Frank had a worthwhile job. But believing that made him an expert was more than foolish. Every teacher I ever had was interested in one thing - imparting their own knowledge to you. And they knew that was their entire limitations. Frank babbling on about communism or the purposeful destruction of the Constitution only shows that he NEVER knew his limitations despite never being able to make a living in his specialty.

I really like that statement. But I question the logic.

He says, essentially, living in a country that provides better medical
care for a far cheaper price then the U.S. is "isn't very smart". Or
living in a country where I can afford full time servants to do the
hard work for my wife isn't very smart? Or living in a country where I
can ride a bicycle on the main roads without people shouting, "GET OFF
THE ROAD!" isn't very smart. Or that I can afford to buy, for cash, a
two story 3 bedroom all concrete house because my wife wanted to move
from Bangkok to the provinces (we gave a 2 story 4 bedroom concrete
house to the boy when we moved).
Or that living in a country where I pay no taxes at all isn't very
smart?

In short the only shortcoming is that outside Bangkok or the two major
"tourist towns" of Phuket and Pattaya, one really does have to speak a
bit of the local language, but if one has a Thai wife (or "partner")
that comes sort of naturally (:-)
