sector is not our problem. We'll fix the CO2 problem eliminating CO2
release in electricity production and in ground transportation. Those
two are all we need to deal with immediately, and both are easily
dealt with. The more difficult areas- air transportation and
agriculture- can be addressed more slowly.

There isn't much point in giving up one's car and walking, if the fuel you save just gets used up in some rich person's jet, limo, yacht or cruise ship.

However, the rich people are already using their jets, limos, yachts, and cruise
ships as much as they want. They won't use them _more_ because ordinary
people have made it "possible" by climate sacrifices.

Still, as long as rich people make extravagant use of energy, ordinary people
won't be inclined to make serious sacrifices. So, even though they could make
the difference - why do governments tax the middle class so much? Because
there aren't that many rich people - this would have to be attended to.

What I would want to do is first attend to ways we can save lots of carbon
while people make _no_ sacrifices. Have people heat their homes with
electricity instead of fossil fuels, and make electricity with hydro and nuclear
instead of fossil fuels. And if wind, solar, and geothermal can play a role too, that's
nice.

Fueling cars with methanol would solve the limitations of battery technology if
they aren't overcome in other ways. High-speed rail could displace air travel to
some extent.

Solutions exist. Collective action is needed because waiting for people individually
to act voluntarily won't produce the amount of change that's needed. Of course,
_nothing_ will, because we needed to nearly eliminate emissions years ago.
