Are they serious? There's a small mention of accidental triggering in

I want to be able to ride my bikes without special shoes, if I so
choose. I can't imagine saying "Wait, don't start the ride until I put
on my magic gloves!"

I like it. Everything electrically controlled can be moved from the
handlebars to gloves or wearable instruments.

However, that's just a half-measure. What we need are implants to
control shifting and braking that communicate via BLE. Be one with
the machine or a cyborg. Darth Vader rides again. Di2 without the
handlebar mounted levers and transmitters. Removing the levers should
provide some aerodynamic and weight benefits.

Might as well add some sensors and instrumentation. Replace today's
bolt-on speed, cadence, power, blood pressure, heart rate, respiration
and location sensors with tomorrows equivalent implants attached to
the riders body. Maybe add new things to measure, such as emotional
reactions:

Unfortunately, to maximize profits, innovative designs must be
introduced at the slowest practical rate. We'll probably see a
succession of incremental improvements merging the rider with the
bicycle. The future will arrive somewhat later.
