It’s rather rose tinted but even so quite a nice article about the Dawes
Galaxy. I think Dawes are still going, ah but only as heritage type bikes.

Obviously not for Krygowski, it forgoes bar end friction shifters for indexed brifters.

That was a nice plug for practicality. Thanks.

Rather depends, I use my old MTB originally a hardtail, now fully rigid
with big plush BigApple tires plus panniers and bar bag for carrying stuff.

It been modified to be more practical though reducing its performance, in
that it has a rigid fork, plus the Triple has gone in favour of a 1by
system.

Though it had better brakes both in terms of practicality and performance
as hand me downs from my full suspension MTB as the previous disk brakes
had been a touch cheap, while it now has some old Shimano twin pots which
have just been faultless.

But back to the depends as it’s a old MTB it’s simply not bothered by wet
slippery roads and metalwork or potholes in both you just ride on though
with no drama no risk of a tire sliding or damage from the potholes.

https://www.cyclist.co.uk/buying-guides/best-touring-bike

Though they are a fairly rare sight and folks backpacking seem to be either
on gravel bikes or using their road bikes, chatted to some young folks
touring across England on Thursday on edge of Salisbury Plains ie
Stonehenge and lots of military gravel roads!

Bikes looked like road bikes under the various bags! One looked carbon
forks at least. They would of been on the road as the military roads
wouldn’t of been much fun and potentially ripped a tire.

Practicality is a subjective evaluation.
