Well, I just checked the group all the way back to 2017 when I was first using Di2 and there was no place that Flunky said that he had a 10 speed Di2, So I have to apologize for saying otherwise.

At that time I was on 5 other bicycle forums so it might have been someone on one of those that was saying that he had no problems with the 10 speed Di2.

Now if someone bought a 10 speed Di2 and had no problems with it I wouldn't be surprised, but Shimano stopped making parts for it almost immediately with the introduction of the single conductor 11 speed system. Though if you check on Ebay people are still trying to sell their used 10 speed Di2 groups.

I never saw a 10 speed myself but my impression of them was they were a four wire system - power and ground and communications out and back.

Starting with the 11 speed it was a single wire and return. The communication rides on top of the power. I think that we discussed the actual encoding at one time and the encoding was 16 bits of addressing and another 11 of the actual message. Blue tooth has a very limited transmission range so it is unlikely to have two like addresses near the same point at the same time attempting to communicate a control message. But it could happen and that is probably the source of the occasional electronic shifting lockups in races like the Tours.

Again, Flunky doesn't appear to have ever said that he had a Di2 of any sort.

Very good, Tom. That apology showed some class.
