Occasionally a downshift to the 36T is noisy, and sometimes it doesn't
complete. No amount of adjustment competely remedies the problem and I
believe the problem is the cassette wobble I posted about earlier. So
I've decided to replace the hub.

The original Shimano hub is no longer made and I hesitate to buy one
on Ebay, so the replacement will likely have different spoke hole
dimensions which means I can't use the old spokes for sizing.

It will be a challenge

This is a rear, right?
Shimano disc/CS hub format hasn't changed. You could ride
over to your LBS with a caliper to double check. They're
cheap too. 7% FL tax vs shipping cost may be a wash.

If the wheel uses sealed bearings just replace the bearings. If they are old standard caged bearings it is likely that the races are shot. If the wheel uses caged bearings it is old and should be replaced with an entirely new wheel which you can get from Catrike.com

The Catrike's I saw were 700c rear wheels and so it should be easy to get an entirely new replacement rather than attempting to re-spoke a wheel unless you're doing that full time.

Yes... Old hub is Shimano deore fh m590 135mm 32 hole

I just got back from my LBS. He's going to order me an entire new
wheel, but I'm still going to rebuild the old one. I've got my eye on
a replacement hub.

Shimano HB-T670 Deore LX Rear Hub 135mm

I'll use the old rim, but new spokes.

I didn't know that Shimano might keep the same spoke format. It'd be
nice if the new hub's hole spacing is the same as my old hub so I can
measure for the new spokes from the old ones.

I've ordered a new wheel, but not from Catrike. I'm still going to
rebuild the old one with a new hub and spokes.

My Catrike has a 599 rear wheel.

I'm going to rebuild the old one for the enjoyment of doing it. I
can't ride every day.
