There seems to be a problem with people in the 'scientific community'
haven't no idea what the 'so-called' "Dark Matter" is...

I have no problem explaining what Dark Matter is, ...but
not in terms that you can understand.

For one...it's dark.

Now, the difference between it being all dark, and it being dark and
stars is just an 'exact number'.

Above that number, it's all dark, no stars.

Below dat number, no stars. no dark.

That doesn't mean that above that 'exact number' the stars don't exist,
....just means it is no longer visible.

below dat number, it will be just a static grey looking universe. no

Dark matter doesn't exist... it doesn't work.

Now, here are some...'internet facts'?

According to the very first sentence in...wikipedia, it reads:
approximately 85% of the matter in the universe
"Dark matter is a hypothetical form of matter thought to account for
approximately 85% of the matter in the universe."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter

and, according to britannica.com:

Dark matter makes up 30.1 percent of the matter
https://www.britannica.com/science/dark-matter

30 percent and 80 percent are two big differences. One of them is lying.

Of course, it goes without saying between the two, wikipedia is the MOST UNTRUSTED source for any kind of information.

garbage in, garbage out, and garbage in again...that is the extent of your knowldege, the garbage that goes in.

Nope, both are correct.

As usual you didn't pay attention to the details, i.e. are you talking
mass, energy, both, or what.

The Subject Heading of this thread read: Dark Matter.

https://www.britannica.com/science/dark-matter reads: Dark Matter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter reads: Dark Matter

I can understand your confusion...it's typical.

They both cannot be correct if the ...'numbers' differ...GREATLY.

Okay, first you need to understand the 'defitition' of Matter:

Learn to pronounce mat·ter
/'mad?r/
noun

physical substance in general, as distinct from mind and spirit; (in physics) that which occupies space and possesses rest mass, especially as distinct from energy.

"especially as distinct from energy.".

also you need to unsratand the defintion for

dis·tinct
/d?'stiNG(k)t/
adjective

recognizably different in nature from something else

Do you want the French translation? Or German, or Afganastan???

Ohhh, I get it now! It's the word "Dark" dat bothers you. Are you one of those...dark people? Darker than blue?

Dark is Beautiful! Dark Lives Matter.

You know, when I tell another guy "Slap me Five!" and I hold out my hand so that
he can slap me five...I quickly flip my hand to the otherside and tell him..."On the Nigger side!!!!"

Now, according to wikipedia...85% of the matter in the universe is dark
matter, and
dark energy contributes 68% of the total energy in the present-day
observable universe.

When you total dark matter and dark energy, dats equals 153 percent! Dat
means here is more dark energy and dark mater then there is a universe.

Where is the other 53 percent located at????

I forgot to mention...
according to
https://www.britannica.com/science/dark-energy
dark energy, repulsive force that is the dominant component (69.4 percent) of the universe.

So that's (69.4 percent) plus 30.1 percent equal 100 percent. britannica.com right again...

Why do you people bother with wikipedia? You're just making yourself look foolish every time
you quote from wikipedia.

according to wikipedia...85% of the matter and 68% equals 150.

How many years would it take for wikipedia to get it right????

Which are the smartest kids, the ones that read the Britannica Encyclopædia or the ones that read Wikipedia?

Of course, Jim Pennino went to 'FootNote University', cause he cannot
believe all dat stuff in wikipedia either.

Like, don't trust the Lawyers, read the fine print...FinePrint
University.

What does footnote mean? It means somebody wrote something and is
saying..."I'm not sure this is right, FUCK IT!"

Let the next wikipedia parasite edit it.

Dark Matter
existed
before the big bang.

So, if you having differculty
trying to figure out
what dark matter is,
it's because
it's matter
that existed
'Before'
the big bang.

And yous seem
not to have gotten
past that yet.

With more careful reading, the seeming contradiction vanishes in a puff of
logic:

| Dark matter makes up 30.1 percent of the matter-energy composition of the
| universe; the rest is dark energy (69.4 percent) and “ordinary” visible
| matter (0.5 percent).

30.1 % of the matter–energy composition.

According to these numbers, the matter–energy composition is made of matter
by 30.1 % (dark matter) + 0.5 % (visible matter) = 30.6 %.

85 % of 30.5 % is 26.01 % ≈ 30.1 %.

The figures between the articles vary slightly because

1. the Wikipedia (WP) article says “_approximately_ 85 %” (the exact figures
are given by Planck Collaboration 2018, although a NASA article of 2021
is referred: note that NASA articles are written for the general public,
and are, AFAICS, never updated; I am going to correct that reference, and
figure too, if necessary);

2. the figures in the Encyclopedia Britannica (EB) are more likely to be out
of date than the figures in the WP as the former’s articles are less
frequently updated than WP articles. (They are only updated by a few
EB editors who might or might not peer-review each other’s edits; whereas
the WP has thousands of volunteers who are editors who are peer-reviewing
each other’s edits simply by being notified of changes to articles they
are interested in.)

The WP article was last edited “22:15, 12 July 2022” (Link: “View
history”), and refers Planck Collaboration 2018 (footnote 76).

The EB article was *originally* written by Adam Riess (Nobel Prize in
Physics 2011), who can be considered a reliable source; but although one
can see that it was last edited “Feb 03, 2022”, it is sorely lacking
references. From the “Edit History” (link) one can see that one Erik
Gregersen “Updated percentages of baryonic dark matter, cold dark matter,
and dark energy in the universe” on “Dec 08, 2017”; therefore it cannot
include Planck Collaboration 2018’s results, and the source of those
percentages is unclear.

It should also be noted that this Mr. Gregersen is more likely to be not
an expert in cosmology as the “baryonic dark matter” in his edit note
is a contradiction in terms. In the current standard model of cosmology,
there is dark matter, and there is baryonic (“(normal) visible”) matter,
but not both in one term. And the dark matter in the standard model is
*only* cold dark matter (hence it’s the ΛCDM Model, “C” for “cold”).

Typo, I meant to write “85 % of 30.6 %”; the latter figure as calculated in
the paragraph before. (The result in this line is correct, then.)
