At 1 minute, gent walks carrying a coracle on a paddle (punt pole, spear, digging stick)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vPMJlXD1pU

He's too large in sleep within, but a Pygmy woman and infant would fit snug. Covered with a hide, wicker framed.

Video showing kids making coracle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxLcICY4CUY

At 1:20 there is a notable parallel, they twine opposing twigs in the same way that Pygmies twine two opposing wicker poles of the dome roof.

I wouldn't be surprised if tar from Arabian peninsula wouldn't help a
lot in making those big and waterproof.

Many materials have been used, tar too. The earliest was broad leaves and wicker frame. Yak hides, walurs split hide etc. were later.

Yes, real humans sleep, not underwater in giant clamshells like mermaids, but in constructed shelters, now much larger than in the past.

> Perhaps 20 ka: this has 0 to do with human evolution, .

You simply chose a random number, with no logic or evidence, obviously. By 20ka humans were on all continents but antarctica, and most large islands. You think they swam there? Nonsense, coracles were used long before then.

You can produce those little boats with many materials. I was talking
about help in producing bigger boats, not just any boats. I mean, you
can use more hides, if you seal gaps between hides somehow. I presume
that tar would be helpful in that.

Sleep probably originates from the time when life originate, if life
depended on solar power (and probably it did). Every big animal has to
sleep (I presume, maybe not). When you are sleeping you are defenseless.
So, you chose sleeping place according to your abilities, sleeping place
has to be such that it is only you who can reach it.
Per my idea, apes adapted to living on cliffs precisely because cliffs
were their sleeping places. Bats sleep hanging from the cave floor. Why?
Because only them can fly in the dark. And so on.
We are *handy* animals. Not a lot of people understand that. Chimps
aren't handy, they are clinging animals, they don't have hands, they
have hooks. But, we do have hands. A lot of other primates have hands,
but they are using them for locomotion, so those hands primarily have to
be adapted to that. But, our hands are free, our hands can adapt for
hand-crafting.
And, this was like that in the last 10 my. And nobody understands that.
The reason why we progressed lately is very well known, but nobody
sees it. What do you need for progress? Everybody knows, a wealth to
invest it into a project. And this is what we had only lately. If you
don't have that, no progress, we could live African village lifestyle
for the next 5 my, no problemo. And our lifestyle will not show in
fossil record. These are all perishable things (except stone tools0.
Metal rusts. Gold doesn't rust, but, if you have gold, you don't leave
it around just like that, gold has value because it doesn't rust, and
everybody who deals with metals knows that.

A boat twice the size, Eskimo umiak, made by slitting the thick walrus skin lengthwise, same done with cow hide (Irish currach) or yak hide (Tibetan khudru), does not need stitches or glue, holds 5 -10 people. To make a larger one, must stitch 2+ hides together and glue/tar seams, or weave big bamboo coracle and tar bottom (India parical, Iraqi kufa).

Red clay is very finely powdered ochre, extremely tiny flat hexagonal flakes of rust surrounded by water molecules and other stuff, afaik.

No, continuously since the H/P split, arboreal vs terrestrial: walk // climb, ground dome // tree bowl, neither slept in littoral zone, both slept above littoral zone.

That was his estimated minimum age of coracle usage, specifically "original" hide-bound coracles! We are certain that hide-bound coracles were much later than vegetative bowl/dome structures cf ape bowl nests & human dome shelters (Congo, Ukraine, etc.) & universal basketry... The oldest boats were not directional, they just floated and were poled & hand-paddled. His coracle is of a much later vintage, with short wood paddle similar to the clay pot tool: short wood paddle.

Just did the Google, couldn't find any hard dating over a few
thousand years. Not for coracles.

Here's something interesting:

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/8000-year-old-boat-building-platform-found-coast-britain-180972989/

It's less interesting for it's age, only 8k years old, than it is for
the fact that is emphasis what everybody outside of academia
already knows: IT'S ALL UNDERWATER!

The best places to live, their boats; all underwater.

Perhaps, if he enjoyed mocking language origin hypotheses without regard to their validity.
Domeshields are merely the most parsimonious step between arboreal bowl nests of our closest living genetic kin and the pre-rectified hearthed dome huts of early Homo sapiens, and remain in service today in specialized usages (coracles, umbrellas, parasols, basketry, etc.).

At 1 minute, gent walks carrying a coracle on a paddle (punt pole, spear, digging stick)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vPMJlXD1pU

He's too large in sleep within, but a small Pygmy woman and infant would fit snug. Covered with a hide, wicker framed.

Oldest domeshield was leaf-shingled allowing conversation through walls, pelts were a later addition.

Mbuti man with antelope, spear, net/basket/domeshield frame

Spears (poles/digging sticks) & domeshields alone did not make us talk, but gave our ancestors a massive advantage in social survival yet allowing individual (pair bonds) independence far beyond other strict social species. That last bit is significant.

Like Wonderwerk Cave 1.8ma in Kalahari?
Why don't you inform the aat.io mermaids about that?
