Not for speeding. There is a 3.5 mile loop that is at a rural lake owned by county. It was very windy today and this provided some cover and I get at least some parts of it with wind.

Today the opening season for deer so that closed off a part of the loop that is about 3/4 of a mile long but clearly on the main open road for driving to the lake and beach house. The sign said posted road closed firearms lethal weapons in use. I figured I was safe on the main paved road for the 5 minutes I needed to complete loops. I had done about 5 and the local Sheriff deputy rings his lights and siren. Tells me to stop bike I tell him fine give me a minute I need to get my balance to stop and not fall. It takes me a bit to drop and dismount I am not graceful. I don't think he like that at first.

Then says road closed can I read the signs. I said yes sorry officer. Then he says you have and ID on you? I tell him I have my iphone but I know my driver's license number. I pull bike up to car and give him my license. He ws pretty irritated and I figured with the phone call to dispatch I was getting a ticket. I told him I was just trying to stay out of the wind I realize the situation sorry.

In the end he told me warning he would not write me a ticket but I took off and got out fast. The only good thing was I had a big tailwind going home 10 miles and did that in 27 minutes. But really lesson learned I am a bit afraid of the police you never know what might happen.

I don't think I understand the details. You mention the "open road."
Were you on a road open to car traffic? Or adjacent to it on a path?
Anything deadly for a cyclist would be about as deadly for a motorist.

When I lived down south, I overheard a guy talking about being
frustrated at the end of an unsuccessful day of deer hunting. He said he
took a few "bush shots" - that is, shooting blindly into some bushes
where he heard movement. What an idiot!

Regardless of whether that story is just another Krygowsky invention
or not, doing that is beyond idiotic. I spent hundreds of dollars
posting my 36 acres of woods in Wisconsin and still saw moron hunters
wandering around in it.

I can't say for Wisconsin but there was a similar thing happened in
Maine when I lived there - someone hunting on privately owned land
which was reported in some detail in the newspapers. It seems that if
there is some boundary marker - fence for example, and "no entry"
signs posted every so many yards or feet, that's all that is legally
required and anyone that enters without permission is subject to the
criminal trespass law which has a maximum penalty of $2,000 fine and
or 364 days in jail.
From memory, in the Maine case, the owner intercepted the hunter and
told him it was private property but the guy insisted that
he had a right... the owner then called the police and they staked
out the guy's car and when he came back to the car arrested him.

There were a lot of deer in the area and the local farmers were losing
a lot of corn to them and had encouraged hunting, so the woods had
previously been open to hunting until I bought it and built my house.
It took a few years to end the tresspassing, but I never had to call
the cops.

Twenty-two states do recognize a purple paint (as a no trespassing sign) law. These states include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho (orange), Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland (blue oil), Missouri, Montana (orange), New Hampshire, North Carolina (no hunting, fishing, or trapping), Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia (purple or aluminum), and West Virginia. This means that landowners could indicate that their land is off-limits if they paint the trunks of trees near the perimeter of their property purple.
