Existing large-scale cellular network infrastructure provides ubiquitous connectivity and global iot connectivity coverage enabling accessibility of IoT devices which a technology like WiFi simply could not provide. Those black spots are the things of the past.

A connected car is more of a normal car which has a sim integrated that allows it to communicate bidirectionally with other systems outside of the car (LAN). This enables internet access and other online services within the car and ability to connect with other devices in and out of the car.
