I wonder if I didn't have some sort of minor illness and that was the reason that I was slowing up so much? It has been since Sunday that I've ridden and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's ride.

N0ow that may simply be because I've had so much time off of the bike, but last week I was dreading the next ride. Every ride I seemed more tired than the last.

I still didn't have any more trouble climbing even the 10 or 12 percent climb at the very end of the ride, but I certainly wasn't looking forward to it.

The rain was so heavy this morning that it filled the large outside cat water bowl to over flowing so I expect the ride tomorrow to be pretty wet road all the way to the top of Cull Canyon so I'll be riding the BMC. I prefer to keep the steel bikes clean.

On yesterday's ride I didn't notice how much slower I had gotten as much as I noticed that I slowed up like I do every winter as I put on weight. This last summer with most of the climbing roads out, I never was able to lose this excess weight so that might very well be the real problem.

Every cyclist knows there are days when one fights and moans
to grind the machine up a hill and then other days, same
bike same hill, when the machine just climbs seemingly by
itself while one's pleasant thoughts are miles away.

Well I understand that but I drove up to a winery to get some wine yesterday from the horses mouth as it were and that road which is a connecting link between two California highways had areas in both directions with one way sections in which you could not see the other end and so traffic could conceivably meet head on. Virtually all of the hill roads are either like this. I used to ride this badly all spring and then come summer my watts per KG weight would be down to acceptable performance levels adjusting for aging.
