This was done by bows and arrows.
Neanderthals were probably much stronger than Homo sapiens. So,
imagine this situation, we have far less Neanderthals, but in a battle,
one Neanderthal can easily handle 10 Homo sapienses. In a battle Homo
sapiens doesn't have a chance.
The situation is the same like on this video:

Bows and arrows are, what was called on the Wild West for the Colt,
"The equalizer". "God created men; Col. Colt made them equal."
So, even if Neanderthals would be able to make bows and arrows (which
they probably were), this wouldn't mean much, because they were in
smaller numbers, and with both species using bows and arrows,
Neanderthals didn't have a chance.

Hs had higher tech. They started as warm-weather dependent, but applied their tech to clothes via cumulative culture and were soon warmer than neanderthals and more socially & sexually productive.
