While attempting to pack for a roadtrip, I watched:

DOCTOR WHO:
"Logopolis". The Doctor goes to Logopolis to have the Tardis camoflague
fixed, unaware that The Master has plans for him. This was the last of
the Tom Baker series. Nyssa annoys me for some reason, possibly because
she's wearing a space princess costume.

What did you watch?

Let's go Brandon!

Ahem! I object to that anti-Nyssa comment!

After all, she was the source for my nom-de-net since
the character was also a computer scientist. :P~~~~

Nyssa, who has been using the nick so long, many people
actually call her that regularly when dealing with her
in "real" life

Sarah Sutton looked fabulous in the space princess costume! If
you can still pull that look off four decades later, more power to you.

For some reason I was thinking Tegan until you said computer scientist
then I remembered, the other one.

I watched:

The Orville (Hulu) "Domino" - Wow! This was a near feature length
action packed episode. I'm shocked it wasn't the season finale.
Picking up where last week left off the Moclan have been kicked out of
the union and looking for new allies. And as it turns out the Krill are
in need of new allies too. A match made in hell. Meanwhile the Union
scientist now without their moclan arms dealers put their heads together
and come up with a new ultimate weapon. A weapon so powerful that even
the Kaylon fear it. So who needs the Moclan anyway. This episode was
everyone vs. everyone and all action from start to finish. Not just
space battles, but ground battles and jet packs. I assumed this was
written by Seth MacFarlane who was just having fun, but as it turns out
it was co-written by Brannon Braga. I know a lot of people hate Braga
with a burning passion, I often found I liked his Borg episodes on Trek.
My one complaint about this episode is how easy various alliances were
broken and formed.

Total Recall (4K disc) 1990 perfect movie directed by Paul Verhoeven and
starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a man who goes to have a vacation
implanted in his mind and winds up lobotomized instead. I love this
movie it never fails to deliver. Great score too! But why is Arnold so
mean to everyone? He uses one innocent bystander as a human shield. He
divorces his wife. And worst of all, he won't let Ronny Cox get home in
time for cornflakes!

Total Recall (blu-ray) 2012 remake starring Colin Farrell as Arnold
Schwarzenegger, Kate Beckinsale as Sharon Stone and Jessica Biel as
Rachel Ticotin. I generally like this movie, but this go around I
really wasn't in the mood and it was mostly background noise. Couldn't
there have been at least one scene of Colin Farrell using some random
innocent bystander as a human shield then tossing his bullet riddled
corpse at the bad guys?

> What did you watch?

I'm forgetting the movie I watched yesterday before "Tiger House" -
hopefully I will remember later...:

The Guilded Age (HBO Max) - "Money Isn't Everything" (ep. #1.2). George
Russell makes an ostentatious show when he and his wife are again
snubbed, but I suspect it achieved the opposite of what was intended.
Marian Brook's lawyer from Doylestown, PA shows up in NYC, and aunt
Agnes suspects a fortune hunter (I believe she is right!). He does
offer to help Peggy Scott with a legal matter.
Meanwhile, Agnes' son Oscar continues to fortune hunt himself in
regards to the Russell daughter, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga).
So far so good.

soaps: DOOL - Ava slaps Jake's ghost!! But she's all alone now. Gabi is
informed of Jake's death and is somewhat distraught. EJ gets Chad's
shares and kicks him out of the DiMera mansion!! More idiocy with
Chanel - as Pauline helps Chanel come to a decision, Sami's twins
continue to bicker over her.
GH - Esme refuses Spencer's coercion, and then takes the stand,
where Diane was able to poke some holes in her testimomy. Then Diane
recalls Spencer as her first witness. Nikolas confesses to having the
nookie!! with Esme to Ava, which enrages Ava - she looked like she was
about to kill Esme at the end!! Sasha knows about Willow's pregancy.
The scummy photographer is about to drop the dime on Sasha to the
scummy reporter, depite Sonny already having worked him over. Brando
catches with Michael with Michael's spy on Sonny.

Force of Nature (Prime) - Wasn't Emile Hirsch supposed to be the "next
big thing" at some point?!... Now he's reduced to doing low-budget
actioners!
As low-budget actioners go, this 2020 flick wasn't bad.
Set (and presumably filmed) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Hirsch plays a
cynical (disgraced? - this is explained later) ex-NYC cop now working
in Puerto Rico. He is partnered with an eager rookie cop (the lovely
Stephanie Cayo), and tasked with evacuating an appartment building
before a hurricane hits.
At the apparentment building, the cops have to try to evacuate two
old coots who refuse to leave, one of whom is an ailing ex-cop played
by Mel Gibson(!), and whose doctor daughter is played by Kate Bosworth.
Eventually, these four are forced to split up and make their way
through the building during the hurricane while being pursued by armed
thugs - and I found the Gibson/Cayo pairing a lot more interesting than
the Hirsch/Bosworth pairing.
David Zayas plays the usual "heavy" here - a Puerto Rican crime lord
looking for some artwork, by any means necessary!
Anyway, this is an OK actioner.

We Hunt Together (Showtime Anytime) - Ep's 2.5 & 2.6 (the "season finale").
I really didn't care for how season #2 resolved.
For one, I really disliked them going with Freddy cracking up -
she's a psychopath: what does she have to "crack up" over?!! (The whole
angle of Freddy's parents is something else that has been far too
glossed over on this show...) And then to top if all off, Freddy
commits a baffling, unncessary murder (which of course is her ultimate
undoing).
I really disliked like how the storyline with Chief Superintendent
Price fizzled, and was nothing more than a callow red herring. (It
would have been interesting - though preposterously unlikely - if he
had turned out to be the killer.)
The ID of the actual killer was... OK, I guess. But I didn't like
how this season ended - it seems to set up writing Freddy out (or at
least kicking her down to recurring), while Lola (and Jackson? - his
continuing as a detective seemed shaky) chase the new killer. Meh.
As it is, I'm not expecting a third season of this show, as it airs
on a relatively obscure pay cable channel in the UK.

Tiger House (Tubi) - This 2015 British film has a promising premise (I
don't understand the title, though!) - teen girlfriend (Kaya
Scodelario) is unexpectedly in the house when some home invasion
robbers take over and don't know that she's in the house. So she has to
evade them, and eventually fight back.
The problem is, it takes her *way too long* to fight back, and the
circumstances she is in a largely a result of "idiot plotting" - e.g.
we know she can easily get into the attic (we're shown that later), so
why the heck didn't she try to hide in the attic when the attackers
first attack the house?!
So, at least the first half of the movie is just Scodelario's
character hiding, and not doing much, so as not to get caught. The film
only picks up much later when she actually tries to start fighting back.
The "heavies" in this were Dougray Scott as the lead crook (with a
heart of gold!!) and Ed Skrein as the almost certainly psychopathic
"rookie" on the crook crew.
Anyway, this should have been better - I recall "You're Next"
treading a lot of this same ground a lot better.

--
"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!

A group of us went opening night in the theater and then had a late supper
at Denny’s and discussed it. I was surprised to find out that everybody has
a completely different idea about what the reality was. Some people thought
he was Quaid, some thought he was Houser, one guy thought he started out as
Hauser and had a triple memory implant. There was another vote for
lobotomized. I took it all at face value.

I love this

Not to mention the woman he hollowed out to hide inside on the trip to
Mars!

And he wouldn’t even give the three breasted hooker some love.

Such an enjoyable movie and it still leaves you unsure was it all in
his head or not. Certainly the way they react at the end before the
alien device is activated leaves you thinking that can't be real but
then it is a crazy movie where they do a lot of things that wouldn't
be possible in real life so maybe it really did happen. Or not.

I still haven't gotten around to seeing this remake. It's on my list
but given how most remakes turn out it hasn't risen to the top as of
yet.

I watched or maybe I should say rewatched this past week the entire
season (only one :( ) of ALCATRAZ. With the lovely Sarah Jones playing
the central character in heels (which she sorely needs at a massive
height of 63 inches. ;) ) Something that I'm sure BTR would have
something to say about given his recent comments on the quotas for
female LEOs that he has experienced.

Though I felt she did a good job at portraying a detective but thought
that if they were really serious about getting the '63 they would have
always had more people involved and not have her only field partner be
Jorge Garcia. Much as I love the guy he (especially as this character)
wouldn't be my choice for a backup when going after some of the worst
criminals ever arrested in the USA. That said I get why they did it as
the pair made a great team from a viewer enjoyment perspective.

Sorry to see the show end again with so much still left in the air but
that is the fate for many of the shows that I watch.

The first time I saw it, I took it at face value that it all really
happened. After all the bead of sweat proved it was all really
happening. But over the years as I watched it again and again, there
were so many little details I noticed, particularly when he went into
Recall that first time. They had images of the alien city in the
mountain that he would visit at the end of the movie. But what really
does it for me is, "Blue skies on Mars, that's a new one." That is too
much of a coincidence in my book. And going back to sweaty Recall guy
he does accurately predict *everything* that follows later in the movie.
All he needs to do is get Quaid to take the pill. There's no reason to
read him in on the entire conspiracy including details that even Michael
Ironside didn't know about it.

I agree the movie is left open to interpretation, but I think all the
evidence points towards he's lobotomized back on Earth.

I couldn't pull off that look four decades ago, much less
now. lol

I did think her costume was cute though, just not my style
at all.

Don't forget the lovely Rachel Ticotin at the prime of her attractiveness.
Everyone focuses on Sharon Stone, but Rachel was the real babe of the flick.

And being sooooo much hotter than Sharon ever was.

(And Siri keeps trying to change "Sharon" into "Sharpton" every time I type
it. I have no idea what that's all about.)

Unless he started out as Quaid and they made him into Houser and then made
Hauser into Quaid so when they strip Quaid’s identity he think he was
really Hauser and help them.

Absolutely!

She has the worst taste in men though.

She tells a story about how when they’re trying to escape the digging
machine a big rock falls and bonks her on the head and she says the
sadistic bastards will probably leave that in the film.

Watch for it. It’s there!

Hey, thanks for asking!

All four JAWS movies.
You don’t realize what a good director Spielberg is until you see somebody
else take a crack at one of these things. The second one is just plain
awful and they get wildly worse as they go. The 3-D effects in the third
one are absolutely laughable. Seriously, they look like they should be in
an SNL sketch making fun of bad 3-D movies. Lea Thompson is almost as yummy
as she is in that Tom Cruise movie.
And then there’s Jaws four the revenge this time it’s personal electric
Boogaloo. Lorraine Gary whose entire career is based on her being the
studio heads wife comes back looking every minute of her 70+ years. I know
Ian‘s IMDb says she was only in her 40s when they made this but there’s no
way in hell. This time the shark is psychic and a lot of the attacks are
hallucinations.

MacGyver
Five years after Magnum PI did it, MacGyver rips off an episode exactly.
The premise is that a supposedly hot woman is in danger from her twin
sister but of course it turns out they were both in an accident and the
twin sister died and now she’s playing both of them. The thing is in Magnum
the girls were played by Sharon Stone who was young and hot and could act
and of course was bug fuck crazy in real life. In MacGyver the sisters are
played by Audra Landers who is directed never to smile. Or emote in any
other way. And she’s not particularly hot and she’s a lousy actress.
Magnum failed to save the girl when she wanted to commit suicide at the
end. MacGyver talked her down and then stuck her in an insane asylum for
the rest of her life. I’m not sure which is the more twisted ending.

Several fourth and final season episodes of SUPERBOY!
They actually did two, and maybe three, clip shows in a row!
One was really interesting though. While trying to figure out who Superboy
really is, Lana… Figures out who Superboy really is! And they don’t undo
it. She figures he has good reason for keeping his secret and at the end of
the episode as he tries to get away because they’re hearing sirens in the
distance she plants a super smooch on Clark and tells him she wouldn’t
dream of trying to stop him. I’m sure they’ll never speak of it again but
that’s as close to a mythology show as they got.
In the next episode he has to pass a lie detector test given by the hottest
head shrinker in the world, Erin Gray. She keeps asking why he’s so
nervous. Jesus H Christ, I was nervous just watching the show!

I tried to watch some science-fiction thing called 3022 that was made in
2019 and took place in 2099 and… Just wasn’t watchable at all. I bailed
about 10 minutes in.

I actually liked this. But IIRC, it does take quite a while to get
anywhere. But there is a payoff (of sorts) at the end.

The one thing I don't care for is that they make no real attempt to
explain what happened...

I was too young to ever be annoyed by Adric. Same reason Wesley never
bothered me on TNG. Because I was a kid myself at the time, I could
identify with the character. Plus Adric was heavily featured in "State
of Decay" which was one of my favorite episodes at the time. But it's
been years, probably decades since I last watched an episode featuring
his character. Maybe if I watched again today he would get on my nerves.

It's a good movie. It's just not nearly as good as the original. But
the original is so ridiculously good, I can't blame them for not being
as good. The remake's main fault is being PG-13. As a standalone film,
it's perfectly fine. It's only when you want to make a direct
comparison with the original that issues pop up. For one thing, the
remake has a totally different plot. They don't even go to Mars! But
all the characters have the same names and it tells more or less, well
mostly less, the same story. Now that I think about it, they might have
been better off making it a direct sequel to the original with a
different guy getting mind wiped. That may have helped to tone down the
comparisons to the original.

I just went through that with The Time Traveler's Wife. Great show that
ended after one season with much left unresolved.

Unlike the "Dredd" remake, which is arguably better than the original?
(Note: I am actually very fond of the original "Judge Dredd", and it's
a guilty pleasure of mine.)

I saw "Life" in the theater and liked it. I have it on disc and I keep
meaning to watch it, but I never get around to it. Sooner or later I'm
going to get to it.

They released it on blu-ray in 3D?!? Checking... They did! I did not
know they made a 3D blu-ray of it. I'm sure I've never seen 3. I
recently watched the first one (which is getting an IMAX re-release this
September). And I'm pretty sure I watched 2, but I have no memory of
it. And I think I saw bits of pieces of Revenge, but never watched it
all the way through from beginning to end.

I have the entire series on DVD. Many years ago I was trying to watch
the series. I actually managed to finish all of season 1 and made it
several episodes into season 2. Then I just stopped watching and never
resumed.

This sounds very familiar. I could have sworn I had it in my Netflix
rental queue, but there is no sign of it there.

It's a TV series about when Alcatraz was being shut down in 1963. In
the TV show the people on Alcatraz disappeared in 1963 and then were
showing back up 50 years later. Sarah Jones character and her partner
end up chasing one of these '63 escapees until he ends up killing her
partner for some unknown reason. (Of course without knowing that the
killer was from Alcatraz in '63 as it's a super secret that only a few
people know about.) The official story is that all of the inmates were
moved off the island with all of them dying over the years so no one
would end up looking for them.

She ends up working with Sam Neil's character (an FBI agent that is
apparently the only other person actually chasing the '63 escapees.)
Jorge Garcia's character ends up involved because he is a comic book
artist that is also an expert who has spent years studying the '63.

I had that recorded but since I hadn't even sampled the show I ended
up deleting the recordings. I'll eventually get around to seeing the
movie and be satisfied with that.

Yeah, the two movies each have a different vibe with the original
having more of that same vibe as DEMOLITION MAN where as the remake
seemed to take the story more seriously. So both can be enjoyed for
what they are.

At first I thought you were talking about a series made in 1963! LOL.
Then you mentioned Sam Neil. I vaguely remember watching this when it
was originally on.
