HBO and HBO/MAX free preview

My Cox just told me there’s a free preview. It also tells me it started two
days ago which is always just so incredibly annoying! Is there anything I
should be checking out?

You should plow through the list of made-for-HBO telefilms to see if any
interest you. Of course, Barbarians at the Gate isn't there.

I loved The Wire. I may revisit that some day. Did you see Deadwood?

They claimed The Wire was center cut for 4:3, with soft matting on the
sides. They claim to turn The Wire into 16:9, they digitally replaced
artifacts and equipment that got into the fuller frame. I don't
understand why 4:3 wasn't full frame from the start, but whatever.

Most of the time, I'm wondering what idiot would pay the additional
monthly fee for HBO, but that would be me. Lately I've watched more
series on Showtime.

HBO has always run everything in the wrong aspect ratio up until they
actually started making stuff in 16:9. It’s a big reason why I don’t have
it.

The listings for the HBO free preview have been pushed off screen by the
news about the queen.

A lot of the stuff is just a literal preview.
Episode one of House of the Dragon
Seven seasons of Game of Thrones
And that’s all they feature

If I go down into the sampler I pretty much can’t read the titles of
anything and decent titles don’t pop up when you click on them

As best I can make out I can see some sort of samples of

The rehearsal
Gemma yep?
The time travelers wife
We own (something too small to read)
The baby
Game theory
Sports crap
Gilded age
Somebody somewhere
On the record
Catch and kill
The white lotus
Paws
Mayor east town
The Nevers
Painting with John
Industry
The undoing
How to something too small to read
The valve
Lovecraft country
I’ll be gone in the dark
Perry Mason
I may destroy you
Daddy
We’re here
The plot against America
Mega millions
The new pope
His dark materials
Katherine great
Watchmen
Gemstone
Euphoria
Love life
Original sin
Rap shit
The staircase
Tokyo something
Julia
Minx
Something Doody
Peacemaker
Doom patrol
Station seven

Now most of these say they’re good through 11/18

Close enough
Sort of
A bunch of really awful looking animation

There’s also a just added section

Although it’s hard to tell if the section is free

Elvis
HardKnocks
Industry
Westworld
Belfast
And after that I can browse by genre
In including black, Latino, lesbian

Nope there’s no white programming

And then there are links to a dozen various HBO channels but if you try to
look at any of them it will default subscribe you

Let’s arbitrarily see what happens when I push Elvis
It wants to know if I want to buy it for $23
No
Then it wants to know if I’d like to watch it for free
OK
First I get a Cinemascope add for house of the dragon
Then I get letterboxed Elvis. Wow. I haven’t seen HBO letterbox anything in
decades.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but it is still on my list.

Thanks. I think I’ll probably take a look at that. I’ll make sure it’s not
already available to me through Plex first.

I get HBO/HBOMax for free as part of my Internet service. I'm not sure
why AT&T does it that way but if you get anything other than the basic
Internet service you get HBO/HBOmax for free.

TOKYO something is actually TOKYO VICE. It's a series worth checking
out. It's based on a book about a US citizen (white guy) that went to
Japan and became a crime reporter for the biggest Japanese newspaper.

I've heard that Matt Smith is having a wonderful time chewing up the

"Irma Vep". I have no idea about this one, despite starring Alicia Vikander.

> The time travelers wife

Overall, I liked this, but one season barely got into it, let alone get
to any sort of conclusion.

You're probably better off with the movie version.

> We own (something too small to read)

"We Own This City"? I have no idea what it's about, but I think I would
hate it.

> The baby

I know I'd hate this. I bet you would to.

> Game theory

> Gilded age

I quite enjoyed this, but you have to like period dramas/satires.

> Somebody somewhere

Important to you? - It stars Hi-Ho Dadaddio (and Sydney Sweeney!)!!

I haven't tackled it yet, but I suspect I will dislike it as much as
Adam did, so I'm in no hurry.

> Paws
> Mayor east town

"Mayor of Kingstown"? - If so, it stars Jeremy Renner. I know little
about it, but the people that watched it seemed to like it.

> The Nevers

The last show Joss Whedon got fired from. It's on my list, but I'm
waiting for the second 5 episodes to drop, and it's now been over a
year of waiting!!

> Painting with John

There's one hott girl in this, but I doubt it's enough to get me to watch it.

See: "The Golden Compass", but in series form. I found season #1
frustrating. I have been meaning to get to season #2, but still haven't
yet...

Are you sure?! - This is a Hulu show! (But maybe HBO did a movie on the
same subject?...)

Adam explained thess.

You would HATE this even more than I would! Even Sydney Sweeney naked
nudity is not enough!!

Anothology series with Anna Kendrick - unfortunately, she's not in it
enough for me to bother...

The PLL (Bitches!) spinoff. It just got picked up for season #2 in the
last 24 or so hours.

"Tokyo Vice". shawn explained this. It's on my list.

Starring THE LADY!! (but not Hooten!). It's on my list (but *way down it*).

James Gunn does a silly take on a DC comics (villain? hero?) character
- it wasn't "outstanding", but I definitely enjoyed it.

> Doom patrol

An apparently very weird/odd DC comics show. The people that like it
*really* like it! It's on my list, but I still haven't pulled the
trigger.

> Station seven

"Station Eleven". It's post-plague, post-apocalypse show, but it's
supposed to somehow be "different" than the usual post-apocalypse
stuff. It's on my list...

He's arguably not in it enough. That may, or may not, change.

You can read anim speel chucker?

It's interesting. A mad French director is recreating a silent vampire
movie in which the newly created vampire becomes more and more
seductive. The best parts were recreating the old movie, which is also
contrasted with footage of the old movie itself. The off-camera stuff is
a lot weaker but, damn, there are mean shots at celebrities and
television production.

It's absolutely outstanding. I think BTR1701 liked it better than me. A
massive indictment of city of Baltimore politics with regard to law
enforcement, without the condescention of 62nd Street (which I watched
at the same time) and other shows that came out in the last couple of
years about bad police.

There is no explanation for this terrible show.

Oh! That’s the thing he’s in. I’ll check that out, but it turns out it is
on Plex so I don’t need to do it as part of this preview. Thanks!

There look to be eight episodes all of which are available free through
11/18
So I’ll make a note for that but not worry about it this weekend

It also is available free and ad free through 11/18

The DVR just announced that it will make a playlist out of stuff I pick
from this free preview which is apparently good for a couple of months. So
I just added White Lotus. I have to tell you, I have lost all interest in

Added to playlist. Six episodes from season one are available to me as well
as podcasts about each episode and making of stuff.

Catherine the great, 2019 series starring Helen Mirren.
But this is one of those shows the rat bastards are only making the first
episode available free. Four episodes total.

Yeah, they just bumped up the cost of TV service so I'm considering my
options. One would be to drop TV service altogether as I do get quite
a few locals over the air. Another would be to combine that OTA locals
with a service like SlingTV. Or get something like YoutubeTV which is
more expensive than SlingTV but does include the locals and is still
cheaper than typical cable TV.

It's been so long that I didn't even remember this show the first few
times I read the name in this thread. Really enjoyed that first set of
episodes and have been highly anticipating the next set. Hopefully
will see them before the end of the century.

I'll add to the discussion by saying the show was decent but it wasn't
one that I would go out of my way to watch. Especially now that we
know it's only going to have the one season.

Oh, it's well worth watching. So long as you are okay with irreverent
comedy. It's another show that I look forward to a second season.

I have this recorded but haven't been able to get past the first few
episodes. It has a good cast and seems enjoyable enough but just
hasn't grabbed so it's dropped to the record for watching someday,
pile of shows.

I'm not so sure about that. I've heard the second season suffered from
a drop in quality but supposedly the third season is back to season #1
quality. Can't say for sure myself as it's been a record to watch
later show for me.

HBO was owned by the AT&T conglomerate, so if you subscribe to their
FTTN service (no longer marketed as U-verse), they're sister companies.

I forgot who AT&T sold HBO to but the joint marketing deals must not
have expired.

Oh, I know that. Just a bit surprised they marketed HBO Max by tying
it to the Internet service and not the TV service.

HBO is now part of the new Warner/Discovery company.

I was thinking of Marisa Abela, but Mavor is good too (but I believe

Yeah, I think it's a miniseries. The Hulu version is an actual TV
series, but it stars the lesser Fanning sister. :|
