Some of the scenes in the trailer are from the earlier movies because
they are remembering past events.

Reportedly, Indy 5 is set in the 1960s, about 12 years after "Kingdom
of teh Crystal Skull". Empire says it's 1969 during the Russia-US space
race, which would be right since Crystal Skull was set in 1957.

I just read an article the other day saying they're using de-aging
technology to make Ford look like he did in the original movies. The
younger Ford scenes are flashbacks but current scenes he'll look his age..

It's supposed to be much improved from earlier attempts like what was used
in Netflix's The Irishman to make DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci, etc, look
younger.

The tech to do this has become scarily good. When I saw that opening scene in
TERMINATOR: DARK FATE, where a young T2-era Sarah Connor is sitting in a
cantina watching John chat up a girl and an Arnold-model T-800 walks up and
shoots John, the de-aging effects were so seamless and believable that I
didn't even realize what I was watching at first. I thought it was just some
unused footage from T2 that they resurrected and stuck in the new movie. Only
later did I find out that was all done with de-aging algorithms in computers.

flashbacks but Indy goes back in time and sacrifices himself so the old Indy
ceases to exist because of it. Thus opening the way for a female to take

"Chicks" are not a minority. Several actors have already played
Indiana Jones at various ages, so nothing new there. I don't see why,
say, the original's granddaughter couldn't inherit the name and the
job. Might be fun to watch.

taking beloved characters from past films, books, and other media and
race-changing and gender-changing them.

If they want to tell action adventure stories or spy stories or
superhero stories with female (or black, or handicapped, or whatever)
leads, create new franchises around them. There's no reason it has to be
done with Thor or Indiana Jones or James Bond.

de-age star Harrison Ford for the movie's first scene.

It's the first scene set in the past in order to give some history
behind the new movie's storyline.

The same has happened in "The Last Crusade" with a young Indiana Jones
before coming back to "the present" and the older Indy.

That makes sense. Lawrence Kasdan's script for that movie was
fantastic, so it makes sense that you don't like it.

To Spielberg's credit, he did try with 'Munich' but has had to spend the rest of his career repenting for that one. Eric Bana was excellent in the lead.
