Starsky and Hutch to return as Fox announces major change to characters

The hit 1970s detective drama will make its long-awaited comeback with
two female characters in the titular roles.

A remake of the iconic cop show, Starsky and Hutch is officially in the
works and expected to land on screens later this year. However, new
stars will be at the helm of the show as Fox confirmed the drama will be
female-led.

John Karlen died a few years ago.

I wasn't thinking of the pilot. There was a lot more recasting than just
Cagney. The chief had a mustache. The Carl Lumbly character was a white
guy and the Martin Kove character, uh, I can't even picture. I think
they kept Tyne Daly and John Karlen only.

I thought Meg Foster did a fine job but the scripts left something to be
desired. I guess it helps when you are married to the producer.

doing something entirely original, but it appears they didn't have the
guts.

The original had David Soul, an actor who was kinda spooky and weird.
That worked.

Tyne Daly is 76 (she turns 77 tomorrow) and Sharon Gless is 79. I
don't think making it to your late 70s is remarkable.

Her bad habits are also a reason I find her making it to 79 somewhat
remarkable. While it does happen (think George Burns) it's not common
for someone that drinks a lot and smokes to make it into their late
70s/early 80s.
