Hey, thanks for asking!

STAR TREK STRANGE NEW WORLDS
Newest episode reported on separately as well as a few ready room
behind-the-scenes shows.

Other than that, just old westerns and background noise.

My CBS affiliate has done something very annoying. They are scheduling BLUE
BLOODS (crime time) after prime time. But there’s no information on what
episodes they are, or if they are new or repeats. So my DVR is trying to
record them. And I can’t find any way to exclude them because they are on
the same channel as new episodes, and there’s no other indicator to
separate them.

In other annoyances, FREEVEE has gone live like Pluto so it’s just a
non-navigable mess.

That happens rarely, but I have noticed lately that it does
occasionally happen with shows in back-end (rerun) syndication, where
they won't indicate which episode(s) are being rerun.

Seems to be a recent trend. And a particularly unhelpful one at that.

I am not seeing that on the iPad - I even updated the app to make sure.
Ditto the iPhone, though I'm unable to update the app on the phone
right now.

I don't get how you do a live streaming service. Although I guess it
would be sort of like when they stream a live concert with no option to
pause. Seems like it would defeat the purpose.

This will be a multi-day catch-up. I watched:

The Walking Dead - Over the past couple of days I binged through the
last eight episodes and finished the series. I was *not* happy with the
finale, mainly because I had been waiting for the much hyped return of
two series regulars whose characters mysteriously disappeared from the
show. I fully expected the two characters to be in the final episodes
and integrated into the overall story and resolution. Instead what we
got was a glorified post credits scene with no relation to the overall
story and not even a proper explanation as to what they've' been up to
all this time.

Secret Invasion (Disney+) - "Harvest" - Episode 7 shows Gravik's people
are starting to tire of his nonsense. Meanwhile Fury and Flasworth team up.

What We Do in the Shadows - First two episodes of season 5. They were OK.

Barbie (theatrical) New fantasy movie starring Margot Robbie as
"Stereotypical Barbie" and Ryan Gosling as "Ken." The premise is kind
of hard to explain, especially without spoiling the second half of the
movie which the trailers and commercials haven't revealed yet. All the
advertising is just the first half of the movie. Things take a very
unexpected turn during the second half. But the basic plot is there is
the Barbie universe and the real world. The Barbie universe is
populated by many different Barbies and Kens. They know they are all
dolls being played with by children. Their world is perfect. But one
day Margot Robbie's Barbie starts to have a bit of an existential crisis
and starts having thoughts of death and other things a child's toy
shouldn't be thinking. So she heads to the real world to find the
source of her problems. Ken tags along since being her plus 1 is his
reason for existing. This was a surprisingly good movie. I know
nothing about the toy line. But much like the "Lego movie" and the
"Josie and the Pussycats" movie the writers took something that on its'
face lacks any real substance and used it to tell a very appealing and
surprisingly more adult story. I think the movie will also work on two
levels. For fans of the toy line I'm sure it was full of inside jokes
and Easter eggs. But for people like me who know nothing about the
toys, it was fun to watch all the "that was a real thing" mocking jokes
that are throughout the movie. The movie goes after Mattel in ways you
would not expect to see in a movie that was financed by Mattel. I also
liked how the movie constantly broke the 4th wall, such as during one
scene Robbie's Barbie breaks down and gives a speech about self
acceptance and not being pretty, and as the camera zooms in on Robbie's
beautiful face the narrator breaks in to say note to filmmakers don't
cast Margot Robbie in this roll.

More latter-day Bruce Willis flicks! And soaps.

soaps: DOOL - I am struggling to remember what happened here... It
basically wasn't anything important. The one thing I did like was
(shirtless!) Alex crashing Chad's and NuStephanie's "date night",
wanting to use their shower, and then inviting himself to dinner! Ha!
GH - Well, that sucks - while she did a substantially different take
on the character, I had actually gotten to like Holiday Mia Kriegel's
take as TempMolly. But unfortunately, she's now suddenly been replaced,
but by an actress (Brooke Anne Smith) who, 1) is basically continuing
Kriegel's take on the character but who isn't nearly as good at it, and
2) is *39* in real life, which means she's *a decade too old* to play
the role! Hell, Smith is nearly as old as Kelly Monaco!! I cannot for
the life of me figure out why they didn't just let Kriegel continue in
the role - it's not like it looks like Kriegel has any scheduling
conflicts!!... Meanwhile, (drugged) Sasha freaks out during an
interview, and stabs Cody. I hope Gladys burns for this...

Vendetta (Hulu) - I feel like this 2022 flick is underrated on IMDb -
they have it in the "high 3's", but I feel like this flick was solidly
in the "4's"...
Of course, though, I am partial to "revenge flicks"! ;p
There is a definite trend in these last films with Bruce Willis to
make him the "villain" (maybe that reduces the part profile, and thus
the number of lines required?...) - but going back to 2021's
"Deadlock", and maybe all the way back to 2019's "10 Minutes Gone", a
lot of these flicks sport Willis as the villain.
In this, an ex-soldier turned suburgan dad (VIKES'!1! Clive Standen)
goes after the gangbanger(s) who murdered his daughter (Maddie
Nichols). Of course, the EVOL!!1! crime lord (Willis) and his even more
EVOL!!1! son (Theo Rossi) aren't going to stand for Standen righteously
killing the crime lord's son!!
Eventually, Standen crosses paths with Thomas Jane's shady "street
seller", who sells Standen guns, and who also has a grudge against the
crime lord's remaining son.
This film was frustrating as, first, Standen's character never makes
a *plan* to really go after the crime lord and his gang, and is
reactive the entire film, which makes his character less interesting.
It also leads to unnecessary collateral damage. Second, no mention is
ever made of Standen's "unit" - as an ex-military guy, wouldn't you
expect him to reach out to his old squadmates for help with all of
this?!
"Vendetta" was amusing to me, because about half the cast come from
Lifetime films! Nichols, Lauren Buglioli (who plays Standen's wife),
Jackie Moore and Caia Coley are all Lifetime movie veterans!

White Elephant (Hulu) - This was barely a "Bruce Willis" flick -
accurately, this is fully a "Michael Rooker film", costarring Olga K!!
Willis' part in this is bigger than John Malkovich's, but not by a
whole heck of a lot...
Anyway, Rooker plays an ex-marine who is now a long-time(?) mob
enforcer. (At the film's start, you think his boss is Malkovich, but
it's later revealed that Malkovich is just the lawyer to the crime boss
played by... Bruce Willis! (again!!))
Meanwhile, Olga K plays a cop, who I guess sees something she shouldn't.
So Rooker, and his younger partner (Vadhir Derbez), are tasked with
killing Olga K... But Olga K is hard to kill!!
At the same time, Rooker's enforcer starts to have sort of an
"extestential crisis".
You can see where this is going, but it's actually pretty good in
getting there.
I would have preferred a more definitive ending - following up with
Olga K would have been nice...

Next up! (when I get to it!) - "Wrong Place" (2022) with Willis, and
Ashley Greene!!

--
"Who would ever do this to him!?" - HottCiara on DOOL (04-27-2020), asking
who would stab Victor Kirakis... How about ANYONE WHO'S EVER MET HIM??!!

What Did You Watch? 2023-07-18/19 (Tuesday/Wednesday)
2 day catch-up.

Stargate: SG-1 S7E20 'Inauguration' - DVD
"On his very first day on the job, newly elected President Henry Hayes
is briefed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Francis
Maynard, on the Stargate program. Amazed as he is with the existence of
the program, he's downright angry at hearing that the new Vice
President, Robert Kinsey, has known about the project for years. Kinsey
warns him that the program is in dangerous hands and is obviously out to
take control of the program himself. The President is his own man
however and wants evidence before making any decision. Richard Woolsey
is brought in to lay out a case for shaking up the SGC."

President Hayes: Now I have to call the ex-president of Togo. And when
I'm done, apparently, the rest of the world is coming to an end.

Vice President Robert Kinsey: You can't possibly be taking their side.
President Hayes: I need time to absorb this, Bob.
Vice President Robert Kinsey: We may not have much time. The longer
those people...
President Hayes: Relax. All I'm saying is, at the moment, I'm
giving them the benefit of the doubt. I need to know more.
Vice President Robert Kinsey: I think you know all you need to
know, and that includes why you're here.
President Hayes: I'm here, Bob, because the people of this nation
elected me to run their country, not the whole damn galaxy... and this
is my office, Bob, not yours, no matter what you may think you did to
make this happen, and don't you ever, for one second, forget that.

Character Error: General Francis Maynard refers to Robert Kinsey as
"Senator Kinsey". By this stage he is, of course, the Vice President and
thus is no longer a Senator.
(Personally I think it was a deliberate insult.)

Trivia: As President Hayes is walking down the hall towards the Oval
Office, on his first day, he stops to look at several historical busts.
While looking at the last one, a bust of President John F. Kennedy, he
bends down to take a long look at it and then stands up and adjusts his
tie while looking at a mirror. William Devane played President Kennedy
in The Missiles of October (1974).
The Oval Office set used for episodes #7.20 "Inaguration" and #7.21/22
"The Lost City" is the same one used in the motion picture X2: X-Men
United (2003).

This was a "clip show".

Commentary: Peter Woeste (Director and DP) and Exec Producer Michael
Greenburg. The Oval Office set was built in a former car dealership.
Appropriate place for many former Presidents. :) The new footage was
shot in four days. They say the episode 'Grace' set ratings records for
both the show and Sci-Fi Network up to this point in time. I'm
impressed that the commentators in all these commentaries, not just this
one, are able to identify the episode titles clips are from and that
certain events took place in quickly and apparently easily.

Stargate: SG-1 S7E21 'Lost City' - DVD
"Daniel thinks he may have found the location of another Ancients'
library and SG-1 set off to investigate. They know how to download the
information - into a human mind - but are also aware that when O'Neill
did this once before, he nearly died and was saved only by the Asgard.
Nonetheless he steps up again knowing the consequences. The effect of
downloading the library will take a few days to show effects and members
of the team visit him at home along with General Hammond who has
important news for them: he's been relieved of command. Back in
Washington, the President has recruited Dr. Elizabeth Weir, a noted
international negotiator, to run SGC. Vice President Kinsey let's her
know that he expects her to take orders from him. Weir arrives at the
SGC with news that all off-world activity is shut down for 3 months
while the program is reviewed. This just as Master Bra'tac arrives to
tell them Anubis will be attacking the Earth in three days time."

Major Samantha Carter: [Daniel suspects that Jack has just
completed a crossword puzzle using the Ancient's language, and Sam is
studying it] The clue for 7 down is 'celestial body', and he wrote 'Uma
Thurman'.
Colonel Jack O'Neill: [in a content voice, smiling] Yes.

Dr. Daniel Jackson: Teal'c's like one of the deepest people I know.
I mean, he's *so* deep. Go on, t-tell them how deep you are! You'll be
lucky if you understand this.
Teal'c: [lifts one eyebrow] My depth is immaterial to this
conversation.
Dr. Daniel Jackson: Ooh! See?
Colonel Jack O'Neill: No more beer for you.

Dr. Elizabeth Weir: I understand time is short.
Colonel Jack O'Neill: Actually, it's all relative, ma'am. Carter
could explain better if we had more time.

Dr. Daniel Jackson: I remember when we were first trying to get the
Stargate to work, I would come here and just stare at it for hours.
Dr. Elizabeth Weir: Is that a-a gentle reminder that you've been an
important part of this since the very beginning?
Dr. Daniel Jackson: Subtle, huh?

[Bra'tac comes to the SGC]
Dr. Daniel Jackson: This is Dr. Elizabeth Weir. She's the new
leader of this facility.
Dr. Elizabeth Weir: [extends her hand] Hello.
Master Bra'tac: [concerned] Has Hammond of Texas fallen in battle?
Dr. Elizabeth Weir: No, sir. He's-he's fine.

Colonel Jack O'Neill: Wanna glass? I can wash one.

Trivia: This episode (and Lost City: Part 2 (2004)) were adapted from
the script for the feature film Stargate 2.
When this two-parter originally aired, each episode had individual
different on-screen guest- and end credits. The DVD-version of Lost City
part 1 & 2 however is merged together into one 90-minute episode, with
combined on-screen credits for both parts. When these episodes are
syndicated today as separate episodes, sometimes the combined on-screen
guest credit run, thus crediting several actors for part 1, that are
only present in part 2. The IMDb credits reflect the original separate
credits.

Commentary: Director Martin Wood, Amanda Tapping and Robert Cooper (also
speaking for Brad Wright). The previous episode, 'Inauguration', owes
its existence to this script. A clip show episode was shot to save
money for this episode's production. "When you get into the board room
you don't want to be bored." The explanation for why they keep doing
strange ways of shooting scenes in the board room. All the mythology
and building on what happened on previous episodes was carefully
planned. No, it wasn't. "The wonderful rich tapestry that makes it
look like we knew what we were doing." is how they describe it.
Apparently one of the first things General Jumper, the new Air Force
Chief of Staff, asked his staff when he assumed the position was "When
do I get to be on 'Stargate'?" :D During the production of these last
half-dozen or so episodes of the season they were "borrowing" Second
Units from other productions because it was all such a jumbled mess due
to RDA's availability. This was also the biggest budget since the
pilot. (At least up to this point.) This was also expected to be the
series finale. This was also my nemesis's final episode as the FX
Producer. Bye James Tichenor! :P (He does come back in season 10 for
a couple of episodes as an uncredited compositor. Whatever that is.)

This was on the Cox DVR. It opened up and was a whole list of those stupid
live channels like Pluto does.

Pluto lets you pause or start the “live” show from the beginning. FreeVee
doesn’t.

What a damn good one. That’s some thing about SG one is that their clip

Electric Boogaloo
The revenge.
This time it’s personal.

This would’ve made a lousy movie. You would think if anything was going to
be Stargate 2 it would’ve been “Mobius”

A compositor composites things. :-)

For example, different departments might be doing some live action, a
painting, some explosions from somewhere else. The compositor puts all this

balancing the colors in brightness and shadows.

Apparently he really wanted to be on the show. The production was
contacted a few times by officer's on the General's staff telling the
production that he was good at memorizing speeches and other things.
When the show sent the script to the General to see if he wanted to do
it they got notes back from the General's staff about "he can handle
more lines". :D The commentators do say he played the role well. :)

In more ways than one. This actress was replaced wasn't she? Did they
mention on the commentary why they swapped actresses?

Are you going to watch Atlantis too?

Recently it was announced a direct to video Babylon 5 movie was coming
out. I had plans to watch a few episodes of B5 I have on DVD then watch
the movie. But now they've announced B5 is getting a full series
upgrade on blu-ray. So now I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the blu-ray
box set and watch most, if not all of the series again. I haven't
watched the series in forever, but I think it will be fun to revisit it
again. I'll probably try to do what you're doing and watch a couple of
episodes each day.

They never told anyone, including her. She’s developed her own theory that
they considered her difficult because she kept asking questions about the
backstory of her character and SG1 and they wanted somebody who would just
shut up and hit their marks, and say their lines without asking what a Zat
was.

Yes, Jessica Steen was replaced with Torri Higginson in the next
episode, the season 8 premiere. No, nothing in the commentary of this
or S8E01 (which I just finished watching) about why.

I've been a fan of Wil Wheaton since before he was on TNG. The only
episodes of The Big Bang Theory I ever made it a point to watch were the
episodes that featured him. Although I'm sure I missed most of them.
The only regular cast member of TNG who I never saw at a convention is
Wil Wheaton. Several years back I was at a convention thrown by pretty
much the only company that was doing Star Trek conventions in the Bay
Area and I asked one of the main organizers about getting Wheaton to
attend a convention and he told that's not going to happen because there
was some sort of falling out and he won't do their conventions. Then a
few weeks ago I was at convention run by a different group and again
talking to one of the organizers and he was telling me about the guests
they were trying to bring for their next convention. He mentioned
Wheaton. I told him I'd love it if they could get him and he told me
he's been hearing that from a *lot* of people. You may not like him,
but he definitely has fans. :-)

That sounds strange considering that Tapping gets praised in a number of
the commentaries for researching on her own the real science behind the
technobabble they kept giving her to say. It was also strange that they
didn't address it in the commentary for the next episode, they've said
before that they replaced an actor because the original wasn't available
so it was a little off that they didn't mention the reason for this much
more obvious replacement.

My theory, she was prettier than Carter. :P
