It's reasonable to suppose that Hawking was motivated by his unique
vision and prodigious natural ability. I'm unsure how much forced
concentration he exhibited for us to generalize from.

Being in shape certainly helps with extended concentration. That said
I don't know that it matters just how strong you are. Just that you
are in decent shape will make it easier for you to concentrate for
longer periods of time. So I doubt there is much, if any difference
between physically fit men and women when it comes to forced
concentration.

Further confounding the "obvious", iirc, women actually have greater
physical stress endurance than men. So, maybe if the chess matches took
place in, say, a hailstorm...
