On Christmas day, I watched:

BEST OF THE WORST: THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL:
https://youtu.be/_CtUd0yuYN4?si=lrdnepy9v042jouE

BEST OF THE WORST: THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL (FOR REAL):
This time, the group actually gets around to talking in depth about the
ill-fated 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.
https://youtu.be/xW4m0oYK0WQ?si=a5nWUCdUSEHi1_Dv

BEST OF THE WORST: CHRISTMAS PLINKETTO:
Ho Ho Ho it's time for another Christmas episode of Best of the Blurst!
This year, we decided to do something different and leave our choices
up to chance by having Santa Claus drop lumps of coal down the ol'
Plinketto board and randomly select a few Christmas movies for us to
watch!!!
https://youtu.be/GL9vi4hTQQU?si=kYsm-3cFauVDfYTn
Cancel Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night 5,Mee Christmas

BEST OF THE WORST: A VERY CANNON CHRISTMAS:
It's the holiday season, yet again! Join the Red Letter Media gang as
they celebrate by opening presents that contain either shitty Christmas
specials or violent 80s action movies made by the good people at Cannon
Films!
https://youtu.be/fgbPUHfBJA0?si=93aEd8chjLumKzQd
Death Wish 3 ,The Christmas Tree,Invasion USA

BEST OF THE WORST: REPLI*GATOR*, JOHNSON FAMILY CHRISTMAS DINNER, AND
ALLIGATOR:
Happy Holidays! To celebrate the Christmas season, the gang watches one
terrible Christmas film and two films about alligators!
https://youtu.be/Urd5vtoGmfI?si=_UEKFRfHlLIj7ACq

THE CHRISTMAS TWIST PART 1: 24-HOUR HOLIDAY COMEDY MARATHON:
Join Stu Burguiere in Part 1 of 'The Christmas Twist,' a 24-hour
holiday comedy marathon like no other. Airing for the first time on
December 21, 2013, this unique holiday special features a blend of wit,
humor, and festive cheer. Notable appearances include Glenn Beck and
Pat Gray, with a special cameo by Stu's wife, Lisa Burguiere. Don't
miss the humorous role of Jeffy Fisher in a segment that's sure to
bring laughs. This marathon is not just about laughter; it captures the
essence of the holiday spirit in a way that stands apart from
conventional holiday films. Stay tuned for the continuation of this
holiday extravaganza.
https://youtu.be/s1W44J33Rtk?si=7C4TpDDr540lvxJu

BEST OF THE WORST: CHRISTMAS OR CATS:
Merry Cat-mas, friends! To celebrate the holiday, the group watches
movies that may be either terrible Christmas films or terrible films
about cats. Or maybe both! Ho Ho Ho!
https://youtu.be/8LsPkYeaKBs?si=qTrzUqTBA4B-uML2
Two Front Teeth, The Uninvited, Christy

BEST OF THE WORST: MERRY KICK-MAS!:
Ho Ho Ho! The group celebrates Kick-mas by watching some terrible
action movies with people kicking on the cover and a terrible animated
Christmas special where nobody kicks or does much of anything.
https://youtu.be/PSqcvmLE0ek?si=JekmR1OR6t7AaKSX
Karate Cop, The Christmas Light, Night of the Kickfighters

BEST OF THE WORST: A VERY SCARY CHRISTMAS:
The group watches some "very" "scary" "Christmas" "movies" including
one of the most famous bad movies ever made!
https://youtu.be/ScgaYFvuBFM?si=6xdak72VZQIKtPsZ
Santa Claws, Iced, Silent Night Deadly Night 2
Hey, it's Macully Culkand!

MATT WALSH EATS A *VEGAN* CHRISTMAS MEAL:
https://youtu.be/cgFda_tbCyY?si=uM42wMTL1wQYYC9w

BEST OF THE WORST: CHRISTMAS 2020:
Mike, Jay, Tim and Rich Evans watch terrible videos to celebrate a
terrible year. When is it time for the coffin?
https://youtu.be/nQxOLpkRWzw?si=TU3Th5my_JvmHsOz
This one onvolved several unmarked videtapes with short subjects. The
best one couod best be described as a "gun nut's Hee Haw" and worst was
an animated feature about budgeting(?) called Small Change that wold
embarass Anima8rfsk.

What did you watch?

We only had enough bandwidth for sports yesterday...:

NFL football - Two awful results, but at least the Eagles (whom I don't
like!) beat the Giants (whom I *really don't like*!!).

NBA basketball - The Warriors lose a close one to a higher-ranked team
(the Nuggets).

That was pretty much it, as this took most of the day...

Afterwards I did manage to get through soaps:

soaps: GH - Thur's ep. Not much really happened - Spinelli was a jerk
to Cody; Monica shows up for Christmas; Michael cuts a deal with Ned
re: Nina.
DOOL - Fri's ep. The annual Horton family Christmas. Brady and
NuTheresa manage to bury the hatchet long enough to celebrate Christmas
with son Tate.
There was no ep. of GH on Christmas Monday, but there apparently was
an episode of DOOL on Peacock!

In addition to my annual trip to the movies I watched:

Trading Places (4K disc) 1983 Christmas comedy starring Eddie Murphy,
Dan Aykroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The movie holds up great, but even
when I read an explicit explanation of exactly what the plot was at the
end, I still don't know what they were doing.

Candy Cane Lane (Amazon streaming) 2023 Christmas movie starring Eddie
Murphy as a Christmas obsessed father who is tricked into signing a deal
with an evil elf (Jillian Bell). The elf grants his Christmas wish but
at a price. OK fantasy flick.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (4K disc) - This movie was released 30
years ago on December 25, 1993. It features the voice cast from Batman:
The Animated series (along with guest stars for the movie) and the plot
is sort of an original story for Batman through flashbacks while in the
current day Batman tries to stop a new vigilante who comes to town and
starts to kill mobsters. It holds up well enough. I *think* this might
have been the first movie I ever went to see in the theaters on
Christmas. But it bugs me to know end that I can't remember for sure.
And it's not that it was 30 years ago. I can easily remember other
movies that I saw during that period, and even what theater I saw them
at. But for this movie, I'm just not sure.

Ferrari (theatrical) New biopic directed by Michael Mann, starring Adam
Driver as Enzo Ferrari. Penélope Cruz co-stars as his long suffering
wife and Shailene Woodley as his mistress. I went to see this entirely
because it's a Michael Mann movie and was seriously disappointed with
the final product. It's just OK.

The Color Purple (theatrical) New 2023 musical based on the Broadway
musical. Fantasia Barrino who starred as Celie in the Broadway show (I
got to see her during the original show tour) reprises the role for the
movie. The movie has an all star cast including Taraji P. Henson as
Shug Avery, and Halle Bailey as young Nettie.

As I previously mentioned, The original 1985 movie is one of my all time
favorite movies. However, I did not like the stage musical version. In
particular I absolutely hated with a burning passion, the fact the stage
musical omitted the few songs from the movie.

Which brings us to the new movie musical version. I have to say to my
very pleasant surprise, I actually liked this version a lot. As is
often the case with movie musicals, they opened up the scope of things
and made it truly cinematic. The visuals in the movie are absolutely
stunning and sure to win awards. Also to placate people like me, they
tossed in some of the movie music. One song they did fully, but at a
different point in the movie, and another they half heatedly sang.
Personally, I would have preferred it if both songs were in the same
place as the 1985 movie and fully belted out, but I'll take what I can get.

Speaking of the 1985 version, I couldn't help but constantly compare the
two while watching. The 1985 version is definitely superior. I got the
strong sense that they decided to not even try to compete with it.
Also, the 1985 version is a soul crushing drama that can make a grown
man cry. This one on the other hand isn't just a musical, it is an
uplifting musical. Side by side comparisons of a scene in the 85
version that would break you, somehow in the 2023 version has become
uplifting as good sings about triumphing over evil. I was in an
absolutely packed theater, and I suspect a good chunk of the audience
never saw the original and in their minds The Color Purple will forever
be an uplifting story of good triumphing over evil. But that's not *my*
Color Purple! Anyway, it was still a very good movie, and much better
than the stage version IMO.

Gasp!

>
> What did you watch?

Hey, thanks for asking ex

I watched Christmas music mostly but told the DVR for the very last time to
record the various parades.

First up was the DISNEY PARKS MAGIC AT CHRISTMAS DAY PARADE hosted by
Julianne and Derek Huff. Spellcheck will let me get her first name or last
name right but not both at the same time.
Being as it’s the 40th anniversary of the parade they really rolled out the
high talent guest stars:

Ariana Debose
Chrissy Metz
Iam Tongi
Meg Donnelly
Michael Bolton
The Smashing Pumpkins
And the cast of Aladdin from Broadway

That’s right, that’s the entire list of guest stars, most of which I’ve
never heard of even after I looked them up. Everybody else is a recorded
encore performance from a previous year! What the hell went wrong here?

The announcer breathlessly says we have a chance to see classic
performances from.

Gwen Stefani
Mary J. Blige and David Foster
In sync

Plus this year‘s cohosts
Mickey Guyton and Jesse Palmer

There are actually snippets of a parade on Main Street, but the hosts, the
cohosts, the parade and the performers are all shot at different locations
on different days apparently. The Pacific Islander is shot at the
Polynesian resort, which makes sense. In sync is over at Epcot. Donnelly is
on a cruise ship and they don’t even pretend it’s a live performance every
cut. She’s in a different location.

The ads are almost entirely for Disney product, which makes you wonder how
they’re making any money on this. Here’s one for naked, Italian lesbian
vampires, or at least where to find them.

Hey! Julianne‘s actually on stage with the Smashing Pumpkins! That’s the
first interaction between the various sets of people I’ve seen!

An interview with Ryan Seacrest, who is looking like he’s on the Laura
Vandervoort diet, waxes poetic about how in previous years they had great
guests, and they show footage of what he looked back like way back then
which they really shouldn’t have done.

Michael Bolton closes out the show magically appearing on the same stage.
Julianne introduced him from even though you never see them together.

you know, I’d really rather have just watched the parade.

Hey, thanks for asking!

Speaking of animation that would embarrass me:

Clip art video of Santa stutters across the screen!

From downtown San Antonio, Texas on the world famous Riverwalk it’s the
42nd annual Ford holiday river parade and lighting ceremony. Brought to you
by Ford and your South Texas Ford dealers. Ford is The best in Texas. And
sponsored by visit San Antonio thrilled that you’ve chosen this
unforgettable San Antonio experience as part of your holiday celebration.
The Drury Plaza, Hotel, the official hotel of this year’s parade, and the
San Antonio, Riverwalk, the number one attraction in Texas.

That’s how this begins, word for word. Even though they seem to have missed
a few words.

Then the mayor comes out and says there’s not a more enchanting place to be
in America than on the Riverwalk.

The mayor then says to the crowd that they have an ice rink for the fourth
year in a row. Has anybody gone yet?
Total dead stony silence from the crowd.

Then they introduc the grand Marshall, which is a guy in a nutcracker
costume who can’t speak.

They say he could dance, and then he just stands there while other people
dance.

They have a video countdown to the turning on of the lights! Which means
they push a big screen TV out and you watch it countdown from 10 and then
they cut to an overview of the Riverwalk and… Nothing whatsoever happens.

In fairness, they may have missed the edit and cut to the Riverwalk after
the lights were already on.

Then, for the what’s left of the rest of the hour, lame displays on flatbed
barges drift by the camera

Finally, Santa drips by.

The end.

Next up was the APS electric light parade. Which is pretty much a bunch of
low tier politicians in pick up trucks with battery operated Christmas
lights from Walmart taped to their hoods. What’s amusing is that they all
had microphones and were talking to the camera, but the broadcast wasn’t
going out, and the hosts (one of which I actually know) Were just telling
us what message the people in the trucks were trying to give us. Brought to
you by the Palo Verde nuclear generating station, the most heavily find and
unsafe atomic power plant in the continental United States. They kept
saying how wonderful it was because it was keeping Arizona clean without
mentioning that, we just sell the electricity to BTR. Should the utility
company really be spending money this way?

They show up on the DVR. APS is a phoenix nuclear plant, the worst in the
country, upwind of the city. The others probably air on the country, music
