In an ideal world, we’d never notice or care.

Personally I don’t fully support Davies’ position - the best actor for the
role should get the role. Where the colour, sexuality and gender of the
character is irrelevant - such as in the case of the Doctor - then ANYONE
who’s a great actor should be in with a shout.

When authenticity and a real feel for the sexuality of the character is
required and that character is gay, then a gay actor is likely to find it
easier to play the role. So looking for one makes casting choices easier.

Otherwise - no. I don’t see it. But RTD still feels that gay people are a
neglected minority in the entertainment world - so he pushes. Which is his
right as we have free speech.

RTD isn't doing this for representation since gays have always been over
represented. He's doing it to sexually children. There is no
justification whatsoever for inserting gay characters and gay
relationship in Doctor Who none of which have anything to do with the
plot. Adult viewers can decide for themselves if they think a character
is gay or not. They don't need it spelled out the them. So obvious
target RTD is aiming at is children in order to groom them. He's even
admitted to it himself.

From what I have seen of him so far - and also from what my daughter says
