Is there a really good recording of this? MAH plays it brilliantly (not surprising), but the orchestral accompaniment on his recording is wooden. There was an interview with Salonen and Levit in the NY Times in conjunction with a performance they're doing in SF; I hope it's released by someone.

vibe in particular than most post-jazz labels. Post-world feeds

sense to everyone in new music, but I know it is very unsatisfying

just discovered this new-ish Satoh recording of suites from Rhetorique des Dieux, compare with Pernot's recording of same from 30 yrs ago - these have become really the only two lutenists I can bring myself to care about at this point... Satoh here tries pythagorean tuning, basically 'just for fun', on-theme with the greek myth references ("I have attempted to perform these pieces in Pythagorean tuning. It is practically impossible, though, when looking at the music of Denis Gauthier and other lute players of that era."), which makes a nice sound combined with the same stylistic sophistication (almost 'affectation of naivete') he has been cultivating across recent Reusner recording and 'Iki'.

Also dipping into the huge INA-GRM box sets of musique concrete composers (Bayle, Parmegiani, Ferrari, not Radigue as much because I already know and love that stuff) trying to orient myself, definitely hard to avoid some impression of kitsch with all the old-electronic-music tropes (in terms of sounds themselves but also all the titles referring to hell, dante's hell, tibetan book of the dead, egyptian book of the dead, the big bang, etc...)
