I did similar with *dilute* sulphuric. Didn't hurt me, but the water
evaporated, and the acid became more concentrated. Eventually
the cloth it was spilled on crumbled to powder.

Yes, I had a similar experience in college chemistry lab. I was careless
in washing out beakers after a lab and spilled some on my jeans. It
basically had no effect until the next time I did laundry and afterwards
noticed my jeans had 3 or 4 inch-sized holes!

As I said, my acid burns were about 1/2" in size and if that had
happened in my clothing I would probably kept the pants for garden
work but not worn them in a work or school setting.

Incidentally there's a way to EXTREMELY CAREFULLY put your fingers
into liquid nitrogen without harm but it's easy if you're not paying
attention to get cold burns if you do it wrong.

In my case I ended up with ice forming under my nails but hand washing
with the water at the normal hot water setting quickly took care of
it.

It falls into the "Kids, DON'T try this at home!" category which is
why I didn't explain it but when I did this in the lab I next put
first a daffodil then a $1 bill into the LN and broke both in half.

Using the same technique I've seen an instructor put a plastic mold
frame in the shape of a hammer into liquid nitrogen then pour in
liquid mercury which he froze into the shape of a hammer then wearing
insulating gloves (to avoid melting the mercury with his body heat)
used the "hammer" to drive a nail ito wood.

Very stylish!

Or would be in a few decades ...

I didn't believe in showing off those holes given most of them were
near my lap and I usually didn't notice till I had leaned up against
the lab bench (usually black and waxed to prevent strong acids and
bases eating into the wood) and not noticing I had a problem till I
saw white power and dissolved sections of my pants! (And grateful the
pants had given their all before it had a chance to penetrate
somewhere rather more sensitive than denim!)
