Hmm. 18 months until I qualify for one of those I think.

No, never did in >230K miles. Apart from the indicator, the windscreen
blower fan went twice (been dead for at least a couple of years);
radiator finally split a few weeks ago, held up until today with K
Seal; wiper linkage broke, replaced from scrap yard; a particularoy
large pothole broke the glove box, now held together with ally plate
and rivets; exhaust heatshield needed repair washers after the
mounting holes cracked oversize; driver's door window no longer opens;
driver's door has to be locked manually. But most of those things were
well after 150K miles.

Our Corsa did. Started Googling and found it was so common that an
entire industry has evolved around it. Found a company in Stockport who
come down South every couple of weeks and do a batch. They replaced all
the engine bulkhead seals in about 2.5 hours on our front drive.

Not obvious but it's on the "Fender" fiche.

https://www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/5JW-28100-00-00

Believe it or not I actually bought a genuine Yamaha FJR tool kit
(used) on ebay, after we were robbed in Pisa back in 2016 of all the
gear we brought with us for our Italian bike adventure. I had brought
a lot of tools (foolishly) including the FJR's tool kit. [1]

[1] Two things that pissed me off more than anything was my insurance
company valuing my late dad's leather Dopp bag (shaving kit) from
the 1940s and an older Snap-On 1/4" drive socket at $0 simply because
they were old. Both were perfectly serviceable (ratchet had just had
a new mechanism) and had a nice patina...

One year of Sierras leaked like sieves around the windscreen seal with the water
pooling in the passenger's footwell (maybe 1987?). At the time I was fitting carphones
and we'd often fit them in the dealers before the car was collected by the customer.

Once the water came in the customer would go to the dealer and the dealer would point
at the antenna saying that was leaking (it wasn't). After a few weeks of this the
solution we found was to er... drill a few holes through the floorpan in the passenger
footwell (the water ran down the windscreen surround/bulkhead under the carpets
and eventually came to the surface soaking through the carpet so the holes stopped it
building up).

Eventually the dealer accepted there was an issue since cars with no fitted phone
having the same issue and the solution was to reseal the screen. But there were
probably 20 or 30 late 1980s sierras that had rotten floors pointed out at the
first MOT...

The Vectra does it because if parked where leaves can get into the moat
between bonnet and windscreen, the rubber vulva which drains that area
gets clogged up and the rain takes the alternative route into the
passenger footwell.

that happens on most cars, well the ones I have owned at least

I just use a long cable tie as a drain rod then flush out with hot soapy
water

Never happened on my Signum but that was because I'd followed the advice to remove the vulva.

Oh pish tosh. I do this all the time, often with a lot more than my

Mmmm, I'm not so sure on this. I've often commented on the drive down
to Thonon on how many bikers do this, even when there is oncoming
traffic, i.e. me. That road does have a lot of accidents on it, and
I'm sure many of them are riders who justify their road positioning in
the same way, but perhaps fail to give themselves enough space and
time to take the avoiding action you suggest.

If one can see that the road is clear then there's no need to remain
on your side of the line anyway, if you can't then you're taking an
unnecessary risk.

Quite. Plus, on a right-hand bend in the UK or left-hander abroad,
you'd normally be positioned closer to the kerb in order to see
further round the bend, so you should be safe anyway.

Yeah, we kn ow where we should be, but I find I like to be near the
line. When I think about it I tend to correct it on later bends.

When Jean is pillion (rare as she prefers to ride), she lets me know .....

Talking of oil pumps running the wrong way, I once heard a tale,
possibly apocryphal, where a certain make of car (one I cannot recall,
American, I think) had a camchain tensioner that ran off oil pressure.
Suppsoedly, if the car were left in a forward gear up a stepe hill and
rolled backwards, it would depressurize the oil line and slacken off
the camchain.

Not quite sure why ordinary leakdown wouldn't also cause this, but as
I said, possibly apocryphal, or it had a separate pump system. Or
maybe it actuall drew the piston backwards against spring pressure or
something.
