I am on a Vodagroan plan, no contract.

Shopping the other day in a Coles Supermarket, no frigging reception at
all, or when there was, so slow that I couldn't use the Coles app.

This is at Wentworth Point (Homebush Bay) in Sydney.

Wondering if in these circumstances Tel$tra might be a better choice,
or could it maybe just a problem with being inside?

The worst provider I ever had in Campbelltown was Vodaphone but years
ago.
If Tesltra provide good coverage in your area go to
https://www.aldimobile.com.au/collections/plans

If Optus are better go to
https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/mobile-plans/?ref=hpb-jul-desk-30

**Vodafone is the worst cell phone provider in Australia (I have a mate
who used to design cell phone networks and he explained how and why
Vodafone is so bad). Pay the extra and go with Telstra. It's worth it.
Both Vodafone and Optus have screwed me over. Optus was OK, until those
Singaporean cunts took over. I'm sticking with Telstra.

I tried another Tel$tra reseller, but I found the speeds were
throttled, and also I need to use the phone as a hotspot at times.
Does Aldi have throttled speeds, and can a hotspot be used?

I thought Optus was always owned by Singapore.

**Nope. It was owned by the Poms. They sold out to the Singaporean
dictatorship some years ago (about 15 ~ 16). A little perspective on my
experiences:

A mate worked for Optus in middle management. One of his customers was
the Commonwealth Bank. He attended a conference, after the Singaporean
cunts took over. One of the arseholes stood up and berated the employees
for being lazy and that the business was due for a shake-up. Management
made changes to the structure, such that my mate's ability to do
business with Optus was no longer viable. They wrote him out of a job.

I was a customer of Optus for my land-line (twisted pair) and my
internet (cable). I was allocated 20GB/month of data. After Singtel took
over, I was sent a letter explaining that my data allocation was to be
cut back to 3GB/month. I cancelled my contract and switched to Telstra.
THEN this dickhead from Optus phoned my up and asked why I was
cancelling my service. I explained that I signed up for 20GB/month and
not 3GB/month. Wait, it gets worse: The Singtel dickhead then asked:
"Why do you need 20GB/month?" Fuck me, they have no clue.

In 2006 I was moving house (and business). I still had my landline with
Optus. I called and asked if I could put a re-direct on my existing
phone number. "Not possible." said the dickheads at Optus. I called
Telstra and asked how much it would cost to put a re-direct on a
landline for one year. "No charge, sir." was the response. I switched to
Telstra that day and have not budged since.

Don't get me started about the idiots at Vodafone. I was with them for a
very brief time. Their cell phone network is utterly hopeless.

My opinion: Make Telstra a fully government owned enterprise OR allow
them to set their own prices. They could put Optus and Vodafone out of
business tomorrow, if they were allowed to compete fairly.

Aldi had them throttled to 3G but may be 4G now as 3G is discontinued
Optus only has 5G

just reminded me.. a friend was told in a Hel$tra store that here phone
was too old and couldn't be used anymore, as no sim cards were available
(it took a micro sim), then they sold her a new phone, and wanted to
keep the phone she had! luckily she didn't hand it over, and I connected
it to Amaysin on a PAYG plan, so she has it as a backup/emergency phone now.

**That has nothing to do with the network. The Telstra network is
superior to all others. Their retail outlets, being independent
operations, ranges from decent to hopelessly inadequate. Optus is
exactly the same. Adequate network (though inferior to Telstra) and
decent to hopeless retail outlets. I wouldn't piss on anything Vodafone
if it was on fire.

the network may be, but Telstra as a service provider is shit. wait on
the phone for two hours to get someone who knows nothing to tell you the
problem is 'at your end'. you can ring AussieBB, at 11:00 pm, as I did
recently, and talk to a knowledgeable person in seconds.

Telstra have *never* been competent enough to compete fairly. I've
known people who started out there (in the P.M.G.) as cadet
clicker-counters and worked their way up to management, and even they
have complained about the feather-bedding that the incompetents indulge
in. And then, when computerised exchanges came in, the sheer terror
that the entire management team felt is now ingrained, so there's no hope.

Now, if, as so many people told them, it had been split into wholesale
and retail divisions, with the wholesale being a government-owned
monopoly, things might have been different. But I doubt it.

In reality they're all pretty useless. Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, who ever.

Cheers,
Gary B-)

P.S. I've been a Vodafone customer, either directly or via an MSP since
the mid-1990s, it's pretty much always worked for me.

Odd then that I can use Optus 4G and so can everyone else who has a

> for a very brief time. Their cell phone network is utterly hopeless.

the only reason I am with Vodagroan is/was because overseas roaming was
$5-00 per day, and I made heaps of trips overseas on business. Big
money saver, but alas, no more travel for a while, if ever again?

In the great big land of the septics (U$A) however, in Los Angeles, the
roaming was often 3G only, going back a few years. And you couldn't
send a pic with an SMS.

Or optus. The optus resellers are generally the best value,
currently moose is the best value unlimited calls and texts
and MMSs to any landline or mobile in the country and
6GB of data for $10/month. More data for more money.

Amaysim can be better value if you need unlimited calls and
texts and MMSs to the main international countrys as well.

> or could it maybe just a problem with being inside?

Never seen that with optus.

Its possible the voda tower was down at the time tho.

Makes more sense to use a reseller.

And Telstra royally screwed over a mate if mine who is such a dinosaur
that he sticks to the ancient locked antiques. They wont even allow the
locked phones to be used on belong, their own reseller.

Nope, it was originally AUSSAT, aust govt operation.

It was never entirely pom owned. C&W was a minor part owner.
